India's tall and lanky fast pacer Ishant Sharma became the 16th Indian bowler to enter the 100-wickets club in ODIs during the third tie between India and South Africa at the Super sport Park at Centurion on Thursday, picking up wickets of Henry Davids, JP Duminy, Quinton de Kock and Ryan McLaren. Having taken 70 matches to reach 100 wickets, Ishant is the fifth fastest Indian to do so, with Irfan Pathan leading the list with 59 matches, while Zaheer is second with 65 games. Ajit Agarkar (67) and Javagal Srinath (68) are in third and fourth position. (Highlights)
After the hosts won the toss and decided to bat first, Ishant helped India capitalize on the early breakthrough provided by Mohammed Shami, when he sent back Davids in the eighth over. (Series in pics)
Just when AB de Villiers and De Kock were steering the game away from the visitors, Dhoni turned to Ishant and the latter provided the crucial breakthrough. De Kock, who scored his third ton in as many games, went for a slog and was beaten all ends up by a slower one from the Indian pacer, taking his wickets tally to 99. He then reached the three-figure landmark with the wicket of McLaren. (De Kock hits 4th ODI ton)
In the list of Indian bowlers fastest to 100 ODI wickets, Irfan Pathan is at the helm, having achieved it in just 59 games, followed by comeback man Zaheer Khan with 65 matches. Ishant is fifth in the list. (Can handle pace and bounce better in Tests: Dhoni)
