India vs South Africa: Jacques Kallis becomes third player to score 7000 Test runs at home

# For the fourth time, South Africa have registered 500 or more vs India in South Africa in Tests - the highest is 620 for four wickets declared at Centurion in December 2010.

# Amongst the number four batsmen, Kallis is the only one to have averaged 60-plus in Tests (minimum 5,000 runs)

# Kallis, during the course of his aforesaid innings, has overtaken Rahul Dravid's aggregate of 13,288 in 164 Tests. Kallis' present tally is 13,289 (ave.55.37) in 166 Tests. Only Sachin Tendulkar (15921 at an average of 53.78) and Ricky Ponting (13378) have amassed more runs than Kallis in Tests.

# Kallis became the third batsman to manage 7,000 runs in Tests at home - 7035 (ave.56.73) in 88 matches. He has joined Ricky Ponting (7578 at 56.97 in 92 Tests) and Sachin Tendulkar (7216 at 52.67 in 94 Tests).

# Kallis is now the fourth South African to post a hundred in the last Test match, joining Pieter van der Bijl (125 & 97 vs England at Durban in March 1939), Barry Richards (81 & 126 vs Australia at Port Elizabeth in March 1970) and Lee Irvine (25 & 102 vs Australia at Port Elizabeth in March 1970).

# Dale Steyn (44) has posted his highest score vs India in Tests - his third highest in Tests, next only to the 76 vs Australia at MCG in December 2008 and 47 vs England at Durban in December 2009.

# Jadeja has bowled 58.2 overs - the most by him in a Test innings, surpassing the 37 overs bowled by him vs England at Nagpur in December 2012.

# Jadeja is the third Indian spinner to take five wickets or more in an innings in South Africa, joining Harbhajan Singh (7 for 120 at Cape Town in January 2011) and Anil Kumble (6 for 53 at Johannesburg in November 1992).

# Jadeja is the first Indian bowler to capture six wickets in an innings at Kingsmead, Durban. Venkatesh Prasad (5/60 & 5/93 in December 1996) was the first Indian bowler to bag five wickets in an innings at this venue. Prasad, in fact, is the only Indian bowler to capture ten wickets in a Test match against South Africa.

# The last Indian left-arm spinner to take five wickets or more in an innings outside the sub-continent was Dilip Doshi - 6 for 102 vs England at Manchester in June 1982.

# Apart from Doshi and Jadeja, Bishan Singh Bedi (twice) and Bapu Nadkarni are the other left-arm spinners from India to take six wickets away from home.

# Jadeja has taken 83 wickets at 22.90 runs apiece in 44 innings in international cricket this year - the most by a left-arm spinner in a calendar year. The previous best tally was 78 (ave.28.78) in 44 innings by Rangana Herath in 2012.

# Ishant Sharma has failed to take a single wicket three times while conceding 100 runs or more in a Test innings - once each vs England, South Africa and Australia.

# Robin Peterson and Faf du Plessis have registered South Africa's first century stand (110) for the eighth wicket against India at Kingsmead, Durban - the third highest

for this wicket-position for South Africa vs India - the highest two are 147 (unbroken) between Lance Klusener and Brian McMillan at Cape Town and 127 between Klusener and Daryll Cullinan at Johannesburg - both in January 1997.

# Robin Peterson has recorded his third fifty in Tests - his first two being 84 vs Pakistan at Cape Town in February 2013 and 61 vs Bangladesh at Dhaka in May 2003.

# Peterson is the third number nine South African batsman to post a fifty-plus innings vs India - the first two being Lance Klusener - 102 not out off 100 balls at Cape Town in January 1997 and Fanie de Villiers - 67 not out off 136 balls at Ahmedabad in November 1996.

# Zaheer Khan (601) has become the fourth Indian bowler to complete 600 wickets or more in international cricket, joining Anil Kumble (956), Harbhajan Singh (694) and Kapil Dev (687).

# With his 74 in South Africa's first innings' total, Abraham de Villiers has set a South African record of posting fifty-plus in ten consecutive Tests, eclipsing Kallis' feat in nine consecutive Tests.
