Dale Steyn has captured 50 wickets or more in a calendar year three times in Tests - the first two instances being 74 (ave.20.01) in 13 Tests in 2008 and 60 (ave.21.41) in 11 Tests in 2010. Steyn and Makhaya Ntini are the only two South African bowlers to have claimed 50 wickets in a calendar year three times. Shaun Pollock has performed the feat twice and Allan Donald once.

Dale Steyn took nine wickets in the second Test against India in Durban. In doing so he completed 350 wickets in Tests and also became the third bowler to take 50 wickets this year. Here are his stats as follows:
# Dale Steyn has completed 50 wickets in nine Tests this year (51 at 17.66 runs apiece). He is the first South African and the third bowler this year to accomplish the feat. Stuart Broad took 62 wickets at an average of 25.80 in 14 Tests and James Anderson - 52 (ave.31.82) in 14 Tests.
