Hosts India suffered a shocking defeat in the first match of the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup in Ahmedabad on Friday at the hands of South Korea in the opening match of the tournament.
India, the pre-tournament favourites, succumbed 32-34 to the Korean side after leading for most of the game.
Led by Anup Kumar, India raced to a 15-9 lead early on. Things seemed to be going as per plan when India went into half-time leading South Korea 18-13.
A few minutes later, the hosts extended the lead to 22-15. However, the Koreans fought back, and soon closed down the lead.
Buoyed by some prolific raiding late into the match, South Korea soon overtook India and held on to a slender lead to close out the match at 34-32 in their favour.
India will next take on Australia on Saturday.
