Mahendra Singh Dhoni is on the cusp of several records as captain-keeper. He is on the verge of slamming 400 fours and a 100 sixes!

* Mahendra Singh Dhoni has played eight games against New Zealand as captain. The second game of this series will be his tenth game and he would then become the third Indian captain to lead India in 10 or more games against New Zealand. Others are - Mohammed Azharuddin (25) and Sourav Ganguly (16).
* When Dhoni leads India in the first one-day game on January 19, he would go past Kapil Dev, who had led India against New Zealand in eight games. First ODI game would be Dhoni's ninth game as Indian captain against New Zealand.
* Dhoni, Rahul Dravid and Parthiv Patel are the three Indian wicket-keeper batsmen who have scored two fifties (which are also half centuries) against New Zealand prior to the start of the series. One more fifty for Dhoni would earn him the record of most fifties by an Indian wicket-keeper batsman against New Zealand.
* Dhoni would become the first Indian wicket-keeper batsman if he scores a hundred in the ensuing one day series.
* Dhoni has an aggregate of 299 dismissals (220 caught plus 79 stumpings) prior to the start of the series in one-day games and requires one more for his 300 dismissals. If he effects it, then he would become the first Indian and the second wicket-keeper in the history of one day games to aggregate 80-plus stumping dismissals. Sangakkara is the other wicket-keeper to have effected 80 plus stumping dismissals - to be exact 87.
* Dhoni has effected 13 dismissals against New Zealand in one day games and occupies the joint second place with Kiran More who also has effected 13 dismissals. One more dismissal for Dhoni would be his 14th against New Zealand and he would then occupy the second place amongst the Indian wicket-keepers who have effected most dismissals against New Zealand. Nayan Mongia with 36 dismissals occupies the first place.
* Azharuddin and Dhoni share the second place for most number of catches by an Indian wicket-keeper against New Zealand. Dhoni would occupy the first place amongst the Indian captains who have pouched most catches against New Zealand, if he pouches one catch - which would be his 10th - against New Zealand.
* Dhoni with his ten catches then would become the third captain to pouch ten or more catches against New Zealand in one day games. Others are - Allan Border of Australia (22) and Ricky Ponting (19). Thus Dhoni would become the first wicket-keeper from other nations except Australia to aggregate 10 or more catches against New Zealand.
* Dhoni has effected 196 dismissals as captain wicket-keeper in the annals of one-day games. Four more dismissals would give him 200 dismissals and with it he would become the only captain wicket-keeper in the history of one-day games to effect 200 dismissals.
* Dhoni has effected 74 dismissals as captain wicket-keeper on away soil in the annals of one-day games. One more dismissals would give him 75 dismissals and with it he would become the only captain wicket-keeper in the history of one day games to effect 75 dismissals on away soil.
* Dhoni has scored 399 boundary fours as captain wicket-keeper prior to the start of this series. One more boundary four would give him his 400th boundary four. If he gets it, then he would become the only captain wicket-keeper in the history of one-day games to score 300-plus boundary fours.
* Dhoni has scored 95 boundary sixes as captain wicket-keeper prior to the start of this series. Five more boundary sixes would fetch him his 100th boundary six. If he gets it, then he would become the only captain wicket-keeper in the history of one-day games to score 100-plus boundary sixes.
