Mumbai:

With Pune Warriors India (PWI) already out of Indian Premier League 5, the lacklustre performance from the costliest franchisee may have brought the curtains down on an illustrious career spanning 20 years.

After being ignored in the players' auction in 2010, Ganguly was signed up by PWI as a replacement for injured Ashish Nehra during the fag end of the tournament.

Having scored only 261 runs from 13 matches with a strike rate of just over 100 wasn't enough for the 39-year-old batsman to avoid seven consecutive defeats this season.

Nothing to prove

Former India captain, Bishen Singh Bedi blasted Ganguly for occupying a spot in the Bengal squad and PWI blocking way for a youngster. "What is there for him to prove now? He should have stopped playing the IPL a long ago.

"He is leading the Bengal side even today as well as in the IPL franchisee he is playing for depriving a youngster," Bedi told MiD DAY yesterday.

"And for Ganguly, it's too much on his plate - he is heading the technical committee of the BCCI, he is a commentator, he is playing Ranji Trophy for Bengal.

"How can he wear so many caps?" Bedi asked. According to Bedi, Ganguly should have chosen one of the roles. "If he wants to play there's no harm in it and none can stop him, but then, you should quit the other roles," Bedi blasted.
