After being put in to bat, hosts Rising Pune Supergiants lost Saurabh Tiwary early but a hundred from Steven Smith and a tidy fifty from Ajinkya Rahane propelled them to 195/3. In reply, Gujarat Lions got off to a blistering start as Brendon McCullum and Dwayne Smith put together 93 runs for the first wicket inside ten overs. Skipper Suresh Raina and Dinesh Karthik chipped in with crucial runs in the middle but some quick wickets halted their chase and it all came down to the final over. With a run required off the last ball, birthday boy James Faulkner kept his cool and guided his team to their seventh victory of the season. Rising Pune Supergiants have endured a torrid time in their maiden Indian Premier League season. After victory in their opening game against Mumbai Indians, MS Dhoni lost four matches on the trot for the first time in his IPL career while they were also dented by the loss of Faf du Plessis and Kevin Pietersen due to injuries.

However, Rising Pune Supergiants have bounced back with an important win over Sunrisers Hyderabad and they will be aiming for revenge against the Gujarat Lions, who defeated them in their earlier encounter. Dhoni will be hoping to get the better of Raina.

Gujarat Lions The Most Balanced

With Dwayne Smith's addition at the top, the opening combination of Smith and Brendon McCullum has changed the dynamics of the Lions' top order. However, in the game against Delhi Daredevils, Gujarat's middle-order failed to sustain the momentum set by the top order and they fell away in the later stages. With the IPL now approaching the middle stages, Gujarat will want everybody to contribute with the bat.

Rising Pune Supergiants Bounce Back

With four losses from five games, with the side being plagued by injuries, the situation looked dire for Rising Pune Supergiants. However, their win over Sunrisers Hyderabad has ensured that they head into the match with confidence. Ashok Dinda was the surprise package with 3/23 in their previous game and he will be the key yet again.

With Faf du Plessis ruled out, Dhoni might be tempted to bring in Usman Khawaja. With the bowling line-up ticking all the boxes in the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Dhoni's men will be desperate for revenge against Gujarat Lions.
