AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli toyed with Mumbai Indians' bowling attack as the duo put on a record unbeaten 215-run stand off 101 balls for the second wicket during an Indian Premier League match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday. (Match Highlights | Scorecard)
The previous highest partnership for any wicket was an unbeaten 206 for the second wicket between Adam Gilchrist (106) and Shaun Marsh (79) for Kings XI Punjab against RCB in the IPL in 2011.
Royal Challengers Bangalore posted 235 for one after sheer carnage by the pair at the Wankhede, which hosted its highest total in a T20 match. RCB went on to win the match by 39 runs.
De Villiers joined Kohli at the crease after Bangalore lost Chris Gayle (13) off the first ball of the fourth over. The South African played a few dot balls to begin with but once he started hitting the boundaries, there was no stopping.
De Villiers, the world's No.1 ODI batsman, stole the show as he plundered 139 not out off 59 balls reaching his second IPL hundred off only 47 balls. His knock was laced with 19 fours and four sixes.
Kohli smashed an unbeaten 82 off 50 balls but it was more like playing a supporting role.
