Rajasthan Royals' skipper Shane Watson on Sunday said the ability to "quickly sum up the conditions" was the prime reason for his side's victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League. (Indian Premier League 2015 complete coverage | Points Table | Stats)
Chasing a score of 156/4, the Royals reached a winning 157/2 with 10 balls to spare with Watson alone contributed 73 to the cause.
"The pitch was a little bit slow and little bit dry, but we summed up the conditions pretty quickly and the bowlers bowled well to give ourselves the best chance," the Australian all-rounder said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
Praising the efforts of the bowlers, who helped restrict the opposition to a below-par total, he said: "Chris Morris was exceptional. Picking up early wickets against CSK is very important. The bowlers executed the plans superbly." (MS Dhoni plays down defeat, calls it an 'off-day')
"We are getting better every year, the people we brought in continue to complement the squad, everyone enjoys the atmosphere at the Royals," he said.
Asked about taking over the reins from Steve Smith, who was the stand-in captain, he quipped: "I didn't ask him (about getting captaincy back from Smith), but as a caretaker he did a splendid job."
