That's all we have for today. Join us back tomorrow for the match between Chennai and Delhi at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium. Till then goodbye and take care.
MORNE MORKEL (Man of the Match) says that his rhythm is pretty good and he was making the most of it. Fantastic to being play here back again. Sometimes he forgets to breath as this crowd is breathtaking. The crowd gives you energy and a boost to do well. They did the basics well and their first outing as a group has come off. The spinners played a good role to especially since the conditions were a bit tricky.
GAUTAM GAMBHIR says a lot of credit goes to the entire unit. 168 was a challenging total but they showed why they are the defending champs by chasing it down. Morkel was exceptional showing good mental toughness. He adds that he is happy to start the tournament on a high and with his performance as well. Further adds good support from the crowd and pleased to give them their money's worth and hopefully in the future we will give them some more moments to cherish.
Maximum sixes award goes to Suryakumar Yadav. He also gets another award for being the star of the match.
ROHIT SHARMA says they were a few runs short. We haven't executed out plans well. They chased down the total very easily as the pitch was really good. It was good knock but ending up on the losing side does not please you.
Mumbai's bowling was not on the money and they paid the price by getting hit mercilessly. Anderson, Harbhajan and Bumrah picked up a wicket each but in vain. Earlier Morkel bowled a brilliant spell to leave Mumbai struggling at one stage. Sharma and Anderson though got Mumbai back in the game. A comfortable win in the end to Kolkata.
Kolkata have showed why they truly are the reigning champs and have stamped a statement of authority as they have an easy win. Mumbai struck early getting last years orange cap holder out cheaply. Gambhir and last years Man Of the Match Pandey piled on some quick runs that too in good time. Gambhir went onto score his 24th league fifty. Yadav came in and played a sublime innings as he along with Pathan took them home without any bother.
FOUR! Wins it in style! Fuller ball outside off, Yadav creams this through the covers for a boundary. Kolkata have won with nine balls to spare and a comprehensive win of 7 wickets.
Fullish ball on middle, Pathan whips it to long on for a run.
Fires in a short ball outside off, Pathan looks for the pull shot but misses.
