SRH v DD: Needed this win to boost our confidence in IPL7, says Shikhar Dhawan

Sunrisers Hyderabad earned their first points in Indian Premier League 2014 with a thrilling four-run win against Delhi Daredevils in Dubai on Friday. Chasing 184 for a win, Delhi needed 20 runs in the last over, but came close but Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a tight last over.

Hyderabad rode a 56-run opening wicket start after winning the toss. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan scored 33 off 22 balls and he was the only Sunrisers wicket to fall as fellow-opener Aaron Finch and David Warner remained unbeaten on 88 and 58, respectively, to post a formidable total.

"Finally we are off the mark. It's a great feeling to win and we needed it to boost our confidence. We knew we had the people and we just needed to click," Dhawan said, adding: "We started off with a great partnership and Aaron and Warner too got us through."

Man of the Match Finch said: "It's been a nice, slow start to the tournament. Remained positive and in this kind of format when we get on a winning streak it can last. The wicket we knew would be hard for the new batters and we made a conscious effort to bat long.

"It's T20, you can't win them all as long as we can win them when it counts we're happy." This was Hyderabad's third match of the competition.

Kevin Pietersen played his first match as Delhi Daredevils skipper. He scored 16 off 17 balls and didn't show any sign of his finger injury. After losing a close match, Pietersen said: "It was a great game of cricket. Very close. We are not that far off (from getting a win)".

"Quinny (Quinton de Kock, who scored 48 off 30 balls) and Vijay (52 off 40 balls) started well but credit to Finchy (Finch), he played fantastically and Warner also chipped in," said Pietersen.

It was Delhi's third defeat in four games, but Pietersen is not losing hope in a long tournament. "Just have to get over the line in a couple of the nailbiters and we will be back," he said.
