Kohli remained unbeaten on 139 and Ambati Rayudu smashed 59 as India chased down their target of 287 with three wickets and eight balls to spare. (SCORECARD/NEWS)
21:18 IST: SIX! Kohli seals it with a six; he remains unbeaten on 139 and this is India's second ODI series whitewash over Sri Lanka at home - the first since the 3-0 triumph in 1982.
21:16 IST: SIX! Kohli launches Mendis into the stands and India are on the verge of a big win here.
21:02 IST: After 46.1 overs, India are 255/7 and Sri Lanka were 235/5. The inexperience of the Indian middle-order has been exposed tonight but that will be the least of the team-management's worries. Once Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni are back, the batting order will look a lot more stable.
21:00 IST: SIX and FOUR! Kohli breaks the shackles as India cross 250. They need 34 off four overs with three wickets in hand.
20:39 IST: WICKET! India are 231/6 as Binny falls to Mendis for 12. Mendis is on a hat-trick as he sees off Ashwin for a duck and things are now looking rather difficult for India.
20:35 IST: Kohli slams 21st ODI hundred as India near another win; they need 57 from 45 balls for a 5-0 whitewash. The hosts had slowed down a little with their captain approaching a hundred.

20:23 IST: WICKET! Jadhav was struggling against Mendis and he stepped out to clobber it over the stands but had his timber rattled. India are 215/5 in the 40th over.
20:19 IST: Kedar Jadhav has looked assured on debut but he has had a few problems against Ajantha Mendis; not surprising given how many batsmen around the world have struggled against Sri Lanka's mystery spinner.
20:10 IST: Kohli is seven short of his 21st ton and India are 200/4 off 37 overs, chasing 287 vs Sri Lanka for a 5-0 whitewash.
19:53 IST: WICKET! Uthappa falls to Mendis and India are 180/4 chasing 287 vs Sri Lanka.
19:33 IST: WICKET! Crucial break for Sri Lanka as Rayudu is run out for 59 - India are 150/3 off 28 overs. Uthappa has joined Kohli, who is under pressure to keep steering the chase.

19:18 IST: India are cruising along now at a great clip - 125/2 off 24 overs, chasing 287 to win. Sri Lanka were 101/4 at this stage. What a knock this has been by Kohli, who came out attacking from the word go.
19:04 IST: 20 overs gone, India are 103/2, chasing 287 to complete a 5-0 whitewash over Sri Lanka.
19:01 IST: FOUR! Kohli smashes that one to the fence and brings up his 34th half-century, third of the series. India are 96/2 in the 19th over. Can the Indian captain score a hundred tonight?
© BCCI
18:51 IST: Kohli has looked as destructive as ever and he is primed to play another of his majestic innings. A hundred from him would seal the deal for India. Easy as that. Rayudu is also looking good at the other end. There is mot much experience down the order with the likes of Uthappa, who is making a comeback, Jadhav on debut and Binny, who has not yet staged the international stage on fire with the bat. So the onus is on these two to steer the chase.
18:43 IST: This is another nice, firm stand developing between Rayudu and Kohli. Their partnership for the third wicket is now over fifty and Lankan shoulders are beginning to droop.
18:25 IST: FOUR! Kohli has come out all guns blazing. He has not had much to do this series with the openers in such good form. But the stand-in captain still has two half-centuries to his name. Can he get a big, match-winning hundred tonight?
18:08 IST: FOUR! With India reeling on 18/2 off 6 overs, Kohli smashes Mathews to the fence on the off-side. Typically aggressive of him. India need their captain to play one of his big knocks tonight.
18:01 IST: WICKET! Mathews is having a dream match. After smashing 139, he has picked up two wickets, including that of Rohit Sharma, the highest scorer in ODIs. India are 14/2 , chasing 287.

17:53 IST: WICKET! Mathews has picked up a wicket after scoring a hundred - Rahane falls for 2 as India slip to 6/1 in the third over.
16:57 IST: WICKET! Kulkarni finished with 3/57 while Mathews remained unbeaten on 139 as Sri Lanka did well to reach 286/8 off their 50 overs. But will it be enough against a powerful Indian batting line-up?

16:53 IST: WICKET! Dhawal Kulkarni takes his second scalp as Prasanna falls for a duck. Sri Lanka are 285/7 with three balls left in the innings.
16:51 IST: Mathews has been on fire, slamming 10 sixes in the course of his innings. What a turnaround this has been for the Sri Lankans.
16:42 IST: WICKET! Patel gets his second scalp as he removes the dangerous Thisara Perera with Sri Lanka on 258/6 in the 48th over.
16:38 IST: Angelo Mathews blazes away to his maiden ODI hundred, off only 102 balls. This has been a great innings by the captain, who had scored 92 not out in the second ODI. Sri Lanka are 240/5 off 46.4 overs.

16:32 IST: WICKET! Thirimanne falls to Ashwin for 52 and that's the end of a solid 128-run stand for the fifth wicket.
16:26 IST: Fifty for Thirimanne, his second on the trot and ninth overall in ODIs. This has been a spectacular fightback by the two batsmen. Sri Lanka are 209/4 in 43.5 overs.
16:12 IST: Huge gamble by Kohli to give Rayudu a fourth over as Mathews slams two sixes to take Sri Lanka closer to 200.
16:08 IST: SIX! Mathews launches into Karn Sharma to bring up his 25th half-century. This has been a stellar knock by the Lankan captain as the tourists reach 167/4 off 39.1 overs.

15:48 IST: Sri Lanka need a serious move-on somewhere here. Both Mathews and Thirimanne have taken their time in the middle and they can ill-afford to throw their wickets away. Risk has to be mixed with caution. Who will take the lead to up the ante here?
15:27 IST: And in Ranchi, it has been slow-going for Sri Lanka, who have crawled to 123/4 off 30 overs. Mathews and Thirimanne are trying to establish a partnership but with only 20 overs left, their hopes of a competitive total are fading away. There is Thisara Perera due in next and he could be dangerous with the bat.
15:24 IST: Update from Perth - South Africa made heavy weather of a modest chase after Josh Hazlewood's fifer but the Proteas won by three wickets to draw level with Australia at 1-1
15:15 IST: India are doing a great job here. After Kulkarni and Binny struck once each, the spinners joined the party too. While Patel removed a struggling Chandinal, Ashwin brought his guile into play, seeing of a well-settled Jayawardene. Now, Karn Sharma and Ambati Rayudu are bowling tight lines, delivering some quick overs.
15:04 IST: Sri Lanka are 99/4 off 23 overs as India continue to tighten their grip on the match. The hosts have been ruthless and they are keen to inflict a whitewash. For now, Kohli's men look like they are on course to do that.
14:50 IST: WICKET! Huge blow for Sri Lanka as Jayawardene falls to Ashwin for 32 - he was beginning to settle down nicely but was done in by a beauty from the off-spinner. Sri Lanka are 85/4 in the 19th over.

14:47 IST: The last time India had played in Ranchi, they had defeated England by seven wickets. Jadeja, Ishant and Ashwin had bowled England out cheaply before Kohli struck an unbeaten 77 to lead the chase for the hosts.
Delight is always 2 watch a match #AusvsSa which goes till last ball n Is well fought unlike #IndvsSL ,which is one sided from first ball!

14:40 IST: Jayawardene has taken over for Sri Lanka again. The former captain has been one of only two visiting batsmen to do well in the series and he is looking good for another sound knock. Sri Lanka are 81/3 off 17 overs.
14:33 IST: WICKET! That's the end of Chandimal's painful stay at the wicket - he falls to Akshar Patel for 5 off 31 balls as Sri Lanka find themselves in more trouble at 73/3 off 14.4 overs. Jaywardene has been joined by skipper Angelo Mathews in the middle.
© BCCI
14:28 IST: Spinners operating from both ends now - Akshar Patel and R Ashwin have been pressed into service after the seamers did the early damage. This is going to be a crucial part in the innings because Jayawardene is a master against the slower bowlers.
14:06 IST: Meanwhile after Morne Morkel snared a fifer to shoot Australia out for 154 in the second ODI in Perth, South Africa are cruising in their chase - they have motored along to 62/2 in 13 overs.
14:05 IST: The new ball is coming on the bat nicely - there is still enough for the batsmen to exploit and get the side into a good position agai8nst a strong Sri Lankan side.
14:01 IST: Some experience for Sri Lanka in the middle now - Mahela Jayawardene and Dinesh Chandimal have a massive task on their hands. Can they navigate the visitors out of trouble here? Sri Lanka are 46/2 off 7 overs.

13:58 IST: WICKET! Massive blow for Sri Lanka - Dilshan was looking destructive but he was castled by Stuart Binny as Sri Lanka get off to another poor start - 45 off the first six overs but both openers are back in the hut.
13:55 IST: FOUR! Dilshan is looking extremely dangerous in the middle now - he has blazed his way to 35 off 22 balls and could be the biggest threat against an inexperienced Indian attack. This match could yet be a test of Kohli's skills.
13:51 IST: WICKET! Even as Dilshan went after Kulkarni, the seam bowler from Mumbai kept his nerves to remove debutant Dickwella, who was smartly caught by Rayudu at square leg. Sri Lanka are 32/1in 4.4 overs.
© BCCI
13:43 IST: After a frenetic first over, some kind of sanity has been restored in the middle. Stuart Binny gave away just three runs in his opening over while Kulkarni came back well to concede only four in his second. Sri Lanka are 20/0 off 3 overs.
13:35 IST: Dilshan takes Dhawal Kulkarni on in the first over of the innings; hammers three boundaries as Sri Lanka race away to 13/0 after deciding to bat in Ranchi.
13:11 (IST): Sri Lanka have opted to bat first after winning the toss. Kedar Jadhav makes his debut in place of Suresh Raina. Ashwin replaces Umesh Yadav.

PREVIEW
India can well afford to test their bench strength in the fifth and final ODI at Ranchi's JSCA Stadium on Sunday. With a 4-0 cushion, India will want to rest a few tired limbs. Suresh Raina is officially out and Umesh Yadav reportedly has a stiff back. Vinay Kumar may sneak into the playing XI.

On a high after the Eden Gardens innings, Rohit Sharma is walking nine feet tall. There could be a few paying their way in to see Sharma bat in the cavalier manner he dominated the Sri Lankan attack in Kolkata. The Indian line-up could see a bit of shuffle.
While the talented all-rounder Kedar Jadhav may make his international debut, Robin Uthappa could bat higher up, probably ahead of Ambati Rayudu at No. 4. Ranchi has always been good to the batsmen and this will a good chance for Uthappa to score a big one. India's batting has really stood out in this series.
"The reason that we have done so well in the matches since the England tour is that our batsmen have managed to go onto a big score. Seven hundreds already we've seen being scored, and they're all from different batsmen," said batting coach Sanjay Bangar. This trend should continue in Australia and till the World Cup next year.

India's bowling attack has done well, thanks to some horrible application by the Lankan batsmen. Dhawal Kulkarni's 4 for 34 at Eden was a good sign. India need quick bowlers who can bowl a tight line during batting powerplays. The spin attack is safe in young Akshar Patel's fingers but Karn Sharma's leg-spins are yet to make a telling impact. Kohli might be tempted to bring back R. Ashwin.
The Lankans have failed miserably in this series. Many felt that they would turn out to be better competitors than the West Indians. But it's been the opposite. Skipper Angelo Mathews has been livid with his team's performance and there have been talks of disagreement between senior players and chief selector Sanath Jayasuriya.
Sri Lanka have never been whitewashed 5-0 in a bilateral series. The closest they have come is their 4-0 loss to Pakistan, in 1984. The Lankans will surely play for pride in Dhoni's land.
