Kingston, Jamaica:

After a poor outing in the just-concluded ICC Champions Trophy, West Indies coach Ottis Gibson says his team is eager to "prove" its credentials in the ODI tri-series against India and Sri Lanka starting here on Friday.

"We were a bit unfortunate with what happened in England. I think we were starting to shape up to do well in that tournament ... it's just to kick on from there," said Gibson.

"It's to put those little mistakes that we made in England, put them away. We felt we had a good opportunity to win that tournament and we want to win this one and prove ourselves right," he was quoted as saying by 'Jamaica Gleaner'.

During the tri-series, to be played in Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, the three teams will play each other twice and the top two will advance to the final.

The home side arrived here on Tuesday and had a full training session yesterday at Sabina Park.

They open their campaign against Sri Lanka.

Gibson, who has been at the helm for more than three years, said it was crucial for the West Indies to use their recent disappointments as motivation to succeed. West Indies faield to qualify for the semifinals of the quadrennial event in England.

"It is good to be back home and it is the first time we are playing a Tri-Nation tournament in quite a while, so we are looking for positive results and we are looking to win it," said Gibson.
