Impressed by India's positive mindset following their 2-1 Twenty20 series victory over Sri Lanka on Sunday night, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has tipped Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men to lift the ICC World Twenty20 once again.
India routed Sri Lanka in the third and final T20 by nine wickets in Visakhapatnam to complete a 2-1 series victory after losing the first game in Pune last Tuesday.
"The way they have played in recent times, the fact they are playing at home, the way they gel together as a team...yes, certainly they will start as favourites. But my honest advice is do not be complacent, don't take anything for granted, just keep on playing the way you are playing and surely I think the trophy will be India's," Gavaskar told NDTV. Chasing a paltry target of 83 runs for a win, Shikhar Dhawan (46 not out) and Ajinkya Rahane (22 not out) guided India home in 13.5 overs with 37 balls to spare. Gavaskar spoke highly of India's positive mindset.
"The mindset is such a positive one that they want to win every match and they want to win by a big margin. That was seen by the way they chased down Sri Lanka's 82," Gavaskar said. (Dhoni Says Consistent Performance Will Give India Confidence for World T20)
Praising youngsters in the team, Gavaskar said that Team India had a settled look and the right balance but he cautioned against experimenting with a winning combination.
"At the moment the Indian team looks very very settled and is nicely balanced. It's got nice ring of confidence, the youngsters are performing superbly in the field. Ravindra Jadeja was outstanding the field, while Hardik Pandya's inclusion has certainly pepped up the energy levels in the field."
"It's a team that you don't want to experiment too much with. I don't think this team needs too much of tweaking," said Gavaskar.
