Playing at his home-ground, Rohit's quick-fire innings included three sixes and three fours. Courtesy his 44-ball 62-run stand with Rahane, India raced to 55 in the six overs of powerplay, the highest so far in the 2016 World T20. This was also the first time that India did not lose any wicket in powerplay in this tournament.
India picked Rahane ahead of an out-of-form Shikhar Dhawan. Manish Pandey was included in place of the injured Yuvraj Singh.
Rohit, who scored 5, 10, 18 and 12 in the four matches of the group stage, respectively, took two overs to settle and started pulverising the West Indies bowlers from the third over.
First to face his ire was Carlos Brathwaite, in the third over, as he was hit for a huge six over long on by the Mumbaikar. In the next over, Rohit hit two consecutive fours off spinner Suleiman Benn.
However, Russell faced most of the heat. In the sixth over, he was hit for two sixes and a four by Rohit.
The Indian opener looked set to score his 11th T20I fifty till Samuel Badree trapped him plumb in front of the wicket in the eighth over.
