India are currently the World No.1 ranked side in Twenty20 Internationals. They have won five out of the last six Twenty20 matches. This has included a 3-0 whitewash of Australia in Australia while they recently won the three-match series against 2014 World Twenty20 champions Sri Lanka 2-1. This current hot streak has made India favorites among analysts. However, the bookies have also made India the odds-on favorites heading into the World Twenty20.
According to several betting sites, they have tipped India to be the favorites. One site, Winners Sports Betting, has given a 26 percent chance to India of winning the tournament. Betfair, a famous betting site, has given Australia a 14 percent of winning the tournament, meaning odds of 6/1.
The defending World Twenty20 champions, Sri Lanka, are not the favorites in this tournament. They are at the bottom of the table with just seven percent, meaning odds of 14/1 while the 2010 and 2012 world champions, England and West Indies, have been given odds of 13/2 and 8/1.
For all those who are unaware of how the betting system works, here is an example based on these same betting odds.
India have odds of 11/4 to win the tournament, which means that for every four rupees you put, you will make a profit of 11 rupees if you win the bet.
