The selection committee of Board of Control for Cricket in India ignored non-performing seniors in their 30-man probable list for ICC World Cup 2015. The likes of Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan were left out on Thursday. While the selectors said they were determined to give priority to the performers, fans at large are divided over their eventual decision. Yuvraj Singh was hero in the 2011 World Cup that MS Dhoni's Team India won in Mumbai. (Teams cannot carry passengers, says Sunil Gavaskar)
Die-hard supporters of the greats took to Twitter and other social-media networks to express their angst against the 'brutal axing.' They feel experience has no substitute and that players who had contributed to the win in 2011 would have been the best to stage an encore. (Also read: Zaheer Khan not finished, says his mentor)
Others, however, chose 'logic' over emotions and felt what matters at the end is winning the World Cup itself. As such, they feel it was correct to drop stars who had not been performing in domestic matches and had anyway been out of the national team.
NDTV carried a forum and asked followers to tweet their thoughts on the selection. Here is a small collection of the overwhelming response - covering both sides of the debate.

For the decision:
Madhukar Thipparthi wrote: This kind of approach is what we are waiting to see by BCCI in selecting the squad to keep the world cup intact with us for another four years.I appreciate the ruthlessness shown by BCCI with an intention of only winning the world cup and nothing else.Bravo BCCI....We dont want to see any body's come back we only want to see world cup come back to us...
Akshay Arvind J. wrote: What is wrong in dropping past heroes? When they drag on, people say why not leave spot for youngsters and when talented youngsters are brought in, people want to do hero worshipping. Yuvi, Gauti, Viru are all legends and will be, but cricket and time move on.
