GLENN MAXWELL is adjudged the Man of the Match for his brilliant batting. With this win Australia move to SECOND position on the points table in pool A. Both Sri Lanka and Australia have a game against Scotland left in the group stage before the all important quarter-finals. They would like to get past the minnows without any hiccups and take the winning momentum to the quarter-finals.
Chandimal and Mathews continued the good work but an injury to Chandimal just when the Sri Lankans were gaining an upper hand in the game, shifted the momentum back to the Aussie side and they wrapped the tail up easily. James Faulkner was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/48 in his 9 overs. Starc was also brilliant, bowling in the blockhole with precision and ease. He returned with figures of 2/29 in his 8.2 overs.
AUSTRALIA HAVE WON IT! They struggled a bit but in the end won it with ease and progress to the quarter-finals! Sri Lanka gave them a tough fight today. First Dilshan and Sangakkara trashed the Aussie attack with a 130-run stand off 119 balls. Dilshan was brilliant smashing Johnson for 6 boundaries in one over. Once Dilshan departed Sangakkara took charge and got to his THIRD SUCCESSIVE CENTURY.
OUT! THAT ENDS IT! Full on middle, change of pace, Senanayake is early to chip this one. He mistimes it straight to Doherty at mid on. He does not miss it and Senanayake departs. The Sri Lankan dressing room signals Chandimal not coming out again and the match ends. AUSTRALIA WIN BY 64 RUNS.
