Manchester United F.C. Manager Louis van Gaal Backtracks on Claim to Resign

On Monday, United played out a goalless draw against Chelsea at home. The Red Devils are now sixth in the points table, a point adrift of Crystal Palace who are a rung above in the English Premier League (EPL). "When the players give such a performance with a lot of pressure, there's no reason to resign," van Gaal was quoted as saying by BBC.

The Dutchman has had a few rough days recently. He walked out of a press conference some days back after criticising the media for speculating about his position.

Then United got beaten by Stoke City 0-2, which led to speculations that his days at United were numbered and that he would be replaced by sacked Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho.

Despite the happenings, van Gaal believes he has the confidence of the board and his players.

"The players are willing to fight for every metre, the manager is willing to fight, the members of staff are willing to fight and the board has every confidence in the staff and the manager," the Dutchman asserted.

However, he is wary of the fact that he might face the axe too like Portuguese Mourinho.

"In this crazy football world, it can happen every day and also with me," he said. "When it happens to Jose Mourinho, then it can happen with me."
