Reacting to India's 3-1 defeat in the recently-concluded Test series in England, the Board of Control for Cricket in India is reportedly going to crack down on wives and girlfriends on tours. According to a report in The Indian Express on Thursday, the Board will 'ban' girlfriends and decide on the duration of wives staying with their husbands on tours.  (India in England: Full Coverage)
"The England tour has been an eye-opener for everyone. From whatever information we have gathered, it's been seen that even if players wanted to focus on their cricket, their wives were being a big distraction.
"When some players wanted to go to the gym or do nets, they couldn't do so because their wives wanted to explore the city. So we have planned that after this England series, we will curb the number of days the wives spend with their husbands on tour," a BCCI official was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
Upset at India's humiliating defeat, the BCCI has already affected a change in the coaching staff. The Board has appointed Ravi Shastri as Team India director and chief coach Duncan Fletcher will report to him.
The bowling and fielding coaches, Joe Dawes and Trevory Penney, have been given a break and replaced with Indian coaches Sanjay Bangar and Bharat Arun.
According to the newspaper report, wives and girlfriends have now become 'targets.' Virat Kohli, who failed miserably in the series, was given special permission by the Board to take his girlfriend, Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma on the tour.
The BCCI had also given permission to Cheteshwar Pujara, Murali Vijay, Ravichandran Ashwin, Stuart Binny and Gautam Gambhir to take their wives along to England.
