The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Saturday announced that David Boon, who was the match referee for the first Test between England and India in Nottingham, has rated the pitch used at Trent Bridge as "poor". The Trent Bridge curator had also apologized for the 'sub-continental' type track.
Boon submitted his report to the ICC expressing his concerns over the quality of the pitch. This report has been forwarded to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), which now has 14 days to provide its response. The match ended in a draw.
After the ECB submits its response, ICC's General Manager - Cricket, Geoff Allardice, and the ICC's chief match referee, Ranjan Madugalle, will consider all the evidence, including studying video footage of the match, before reaching their decision on whether or not the pitch was poor and if so, if a penalty should be imposed in accordance with ICC's Pitch Monitoring Process.
The Trent Bridge Test was played from July 9 to 13 July in which India scored 457 and 391-9 declared, while England scored 496 in their only innings. English players, particularly Man of the Match James Anderson, slammed the slow and low nature of the wicket.
The Lord's pitch, where the second Test is under way, is a typically English wicket. With a greenish tinge, the wicket has plenty for the quick bowlers.
