Yuvraj Singh has recalled his ouster from the Indian team, slamming the management over a lack of clarity during the fag end of his international cricketer. Yuvraj revealed that neither the captain (Virat Kohli) nor the coach at the time conveyed to him the reason behind his absence from the side, adding that it was former India captain MS Dhoni who finally provided clarity-noting that selectors were no longer looking at him. Speaking to Sports Tak, Yuvraj also recalled being asked to retire after the management told him he would not be able to pass the fitness test.
"In my case, there was zero clarity. No clarity from the NCA, captain or coach. I was like stuck. I was 36-37. I was like, 'what do I do?' I felt like I should get some respect for whatever cricket that I played. I spoke to MS Dhoni on phone and he gave me the right perspective. He was neither the captain nor he had to do anything with it. But, he was watching everything that was going on. I got the clarity after that. I was told that you won't be able to pass the fitness test so you should retire. I said that it is my call to retire or not and yours to play me or not," said Yuvraj.
Yuvraj made his international debut in 2000 and called it quits from the sport in 2019. He represented India in 398 matches across formats and had over 11,000 runs to show for it.
India won the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup in 2007, and Yuvraj was a vital player for the team in the tournament.
The 38-year-old was also phenomenal in India's World Cup triumph in 2011 as he became the first all-rounder to score over 300 runs and scalp 15 wickets in a single World Cup. The feat included four Man of the Match awards and Man of the Tournament for 362 runs and 15 wickets.
In 2019, Yuvraj had announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. With a career spanning over 304 ODIs, 58 T20Is, and 40 Tests, Yuvraj cemented his place as a player who could win matches for his side either through his electric fielding, fierce batting, or smart bowling.
