Yuvraj should not suffer relapse, say doctors

Yuvraj Singh returned home to a warm welcome on Monday after a three-month long treatment for a rare germ cell cancer and his doctors are confident that the India cricketer will not suffer a cancer relapse.

He underwent three cycles of chemotherapy in the United States and finished the treatment mid-March before moving to London for recuperating.

The official BCCI website says, "Yuvraj's doctors were happy with his reaction to the treatment and were confident he wouldn't suffer a relapse".

Yuvraj was treated by Dr Lawrence Einhorn who had also treated legendary cyclist Lance Armstrong in 1996.

Yuvraj's mother Shabnam Singh spoke to the media on Monday and said Yuvraj has been advised rest for 10-15 days. "He is absolutely fine. He's been advised rest for 10-15 days."

She also said he did not have to visit the doctors for the next three months.

He will to announce his future plans and details about treatment received on Wednesday. The southpaw, however, is not expected to play for a few months and he's predicted to return to the cricket field closer to the end of 2012.

Yuvraj has been out of action since November when he last played a Test against the West Indies. However, his last ODI was the World Cup final against  Sri Lanka on April 2, 2011. He missed the entire Australian tour and also the ongoing the Indian Premier League season 5 due to his ailment.

Yuvraj has scored 8,051 runs in 274 one-dayers and 1,775 runs in 37 Tests since making his international debut in 2000. His fans are eagerly waiting to see him return to the field, where he really belongs, completely fit.
