Earlier, Kohli entered the record books as he became the quickest batsman to reach 7000 runs during the third ODI against Australia at Melbourne on Sunday.
In the 10th over bowled by James Faulkner, Kohli glanced a full ball on leg stump to fine leg for a boundary to bring up the landmark, in the process joining an illustrious list.
He shared a wonderful 119-run stand for the second wicket with Shikhar Dhawan who also showed glimpses of coming back to form by scoring a gritty 68. He also shared a magnificent partnership with Rahane and he brought up his century by nudging Kane Richardson to the leg side to give the 50,000-plus crowd at the MCG plenty to cheer.
Kohli became the fastest batsman to reach 7000 runs in ODIs. He achieved his landmark in his 169th match and in his 161st innings, breaking the previous record set by South Africa's AB de Villiers who achieved it in his 166th innings and in his 172nd match. De Villiers also went past the landmark against Australia during the ODI in Perth in November 2014. He is also the fastest batsman to register 24 centuries, playing in just his 166th match.
The dashing right-hander sits on top of the pile in ODIs, beating the likes of legends like Brian Lara, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Jacques Kallis, Ricky Ponting and Rahul Dravid.
