Just five days after he rewrote the record books to become the first player in Test match history to have hit 100 sixes, New Zealand's Brendon McCullum added another feather to his cap. (Scorecard)
The Kiwi skipper broke AB de Villiers' record of most number of consecutive Tests since debut during the second Test in Hamilton on Friday. McCullum joins an elite list that includes the likes of Adam Gilchrist, who played 96 consecutive Test since debut and India's Rahul Dravid, who played 93 Tests without getting dropped. McCullum had equalled the South African's record during the Dunedin Test, which the hosts won by 122 runs. McCullum had burst onto the scene at the very same venue against South African on March 10, 2004.
The aggressive batsman arrived with a reputation of an Adam Gilchrist-type player, who could flay the best of bowling attacks. And McCullum showed the first glimpse of it, by smashing a half-century (57) in the first innings against the likes of Shaun Pollock, Makhaya Ntini, Andre Nel, Jacques Kallis and Paul Adams.
The Kiwi keeper-batsman had to wait till his seventh Test -- 13th innings -- to score his maiden Test ton. Seven months after making his debut, McCullum reached the three-figure mark against Bangladesh in Dhaka. His 143 eventually helped the visitors register a convincing win by an innings and 99 runs.
In his 99 Tests so far, he has broken a plethora of records. Here is a statistical highlights of McCullum's Test career so far.
302 - Brendon McCullum, in February 2014, became the first New Zealand player to score a triple ton in Test cricket. McCullum raced his way past the 300-run mark -- the highest individual score by a Kiwi -- on Day 5 of the second Test against India in Wellington. The 34-year-old, reached the landmark on Day 4 of Dunedin Test, against Sri Lanka when he belted his second six of his innings to equal the world record. It took his total to 100, joining Gilchrist as the most prolific boundary busters in Test history.
52 - He is not too far behind as well in terms of captains with maximum sixes. He is second on that list, just six behind Pakistan's Misbah-ul-Haq, who has 58 sixes as a captain to his name.
4 - McCullum has bagged the man-of-the-match award four times. His consistency improved dramatically since 2010 as he bagged all his four MoM award post 2010.
3- Has double centuries to his name. Prior to his magnificent 302 against India, McCullum has scored three double tons. First double ton against India came in 2010, during the second Test at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, wherein he smashed his way to 225 as an opener.
McCullum once again turned India's nemesis as he played a match-winning 224 at Eden Park, which helped New Zealand thrash India by 40 runs in February 2014.
In the same year, he smashed his third double ton of his career - this time against Pakistan in Sharjah - 202 this time as he along with Kane Williamson decimated Pakistan at home in the third Test.
