Brendon McCullum Smashes Century of Sixes in Tests

New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum on Sunday rewrote record books when he smashed his 100th six in Test cricket, equalling Australia great Adam Gilchrist's record for most number of sixes in the five-day format.

McCullum, who remained not out on 17 on Day 4 of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Dunedin, belted his second six of his innings to equal the world record. It took his total to 100, joining Gilchrist as the most prolific boundary busters in Test history.

He declared the New Zealand innings at 267 for three, to set Sri Lanka a formidable 405-run target to win the Test match. The tourists were reduced to 109 for three at stumps on a rain-marred day, requiring another 296 runs to pull off an epic victory.

Other statistical highlights of the match:

# Wicketkeeper BJ Watling made a New Zealand record when he took his ninth catch in the ongoing Test.

# With seven wickets left, he has a chance to reach the world record of 11 jointly held by England's Jack Russell and South African AB de Villiers.

# Tom Latham, who scored an unbeaten 109, notched up his third Test century.

# Kane Williamson hit his 18th half-century. He was out for 71 in the second innings. The in-form batsman had scored 88 in the first innings.

# It was the 20th time he has passed fifty in all forms of international cricket this year, including eight times in Tests.
