A formal announcement was made on Tuesday after a Pakistan Cricket Board committee comprising Intikhab Alam (director domestic cricket operations), Haroon Rashid (director game development) and Moin Khan (chief selector) met to review the applications received for the position of head coach. Waqar was an unanimous choice.
"I am extremely pleased to have been selected as the head coach," Waqar said. "My immediate aim would be to prepare the team for the upcoming busy cricket season including the next year's ICC Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand." (Waqar offered 2-year contract)
Waqar, who is currently in India due to an Indian Premier League commentary assignment, will be joining in June 2014. The position of head coach had fallen vacant after Dav Whatmore's contract ended in February. Moin was a stop-gap coach till the ICC World Twenty20. (It's Waqar vs Saqlain)
