Kumar Sangakkara's 319 and 105 in the 2nd Test against Bangladesh at Chittagong has helped the Sri Lanka veteran jump five places to become the second best Test batsman currently. (Scorecard)
Sangakkara became only the second batsman ever to hit a triple ton and a century in the same Test match. His knock helped him gain 58 rating points (879) to take the second spot behind South Africa's AB de Villiers (912). He is now also only the fourth man ever to score in excess of 400 runs in a single Test. (Kumar Sangakkara's 35th ton helps Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 467 runs)
While man-of-the-match and man-of the series Sangakkara now has a slender lead of three points over West Indies' Shivnarine Chanderpaul, his team has maintained its sixth position courtesy their 1-0 series win against hosts Bangladesh.
The other major changes in the rankings came from India's Test against New Zealand. India lost the Auckland Test by 40 runs and Cheteshwar Pujara's 1 and 23 has resulted in him dropping down by a place to sixth in the list of batsmen. The next best Indian is Virat Kohli who remained firm on his 11th position. For the Kiwis, Ross Taylor dropped two places to fifth after scoring 3 and 41 in the opening Test.
In the team rankings, India continue to be placed second but now need to win the 2nd Test and level series vs New Zealand to maintain their position.
