Shikhar Dhawan's century gives India series win vs West Indies

Shikhar Dhawan stole the show with a sensational century as India beat the West Indies by five wickets in the third and final ODI at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur to clinch the three-match series 2-1. Chasing 264 for victory, Dhawan's 95-ball 119 guided India home with 3.5 overs to spare. The 27-year-old was involved in a 129-run third-wicket stand with Yuvraj Singh, who scored 55, his 51st ODI half-century. Wednesday's innings was Dhawan's career-best score in ODIs, his previous being 116 versus Zimbabwe in Harare earlier this year.

After being put into bat, West Indies rode on half-centuries by Kieran Powell, Marlon Samuels and Darren Bravo to post 263 for five in their 50 overs. Powell and Samuels put on 117 runs for the second wicket before both were dismissed by off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who ended with impressive figures of 2 for 45. Darren Bravo and Darren Sammy (37 not out) mounted a late surge as the visitors posted a challenging score.

In the chase, West Indian medium pacer Ravi Rampaul dismissed the two in-form batsmen Rohit Sharma (4) and Virat Kohli (19), but Dhawan and Yuvraj ensured that India would suffer no hiccups. Dhawan was ultimately dismissed in the 38th over after his fifth ODI century of the year, but it was too little too late for the visitors. Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni (23 not out) completed the formalities as India won with a lot to spare.
