I have always worn towels while bowling: Sreesanth after leaving Tihar

Test cricketer S Sreesanth finally walked out of Tihar Jail this evening after spending nearly a month behind bars in connection with the Indian Premier League or IPL spot-fixing case. Speaking to NDTV, the 30-year-old Kerala pacer said "I always wore towels while bowling."

Police had alleged Sreesanth had a towel tucked in his waistband that was a signal to bookies that he was bowling a fixed over. (Also read: Sreesanth arrives in Kerala to tumultuous welcome)

"All my life, including a tennis ball match, I have played with my heart on my sleeve... I thank Rajasthan for the support. I understand I am the accused," he said.

The cricketer said that he was following the Indian cricket team's progress in the ongoing Champions Trophy in jail and was hopeful of making his return to the Indian squad. "I was fortunate enough to watch TV in jail. Saw Indian team play. I hope I can come back for India's tour of South Africa. I am sure I can play for India again," Sreesanth said.

The fast bowler said the toughest time for him in this entire episode was when he was officially arrested and that he does not wish what he endured on his worst enemy. "The happiest moment in the entire fiasco was when I got out of Tihar," he said.

"I played the game with all the right spirit... I believe in the Indian judiciary and I am sure my innocence will be proved. I will surely abide by the process of law," he said while addressing a press conference later.

Sreesanth and his Rajasthan Royals teammate Ankeet Chavan were granted bail yesterday, along with 17 others in the spot-fixing case by a Delhi court. The 19 accused will have to surrender their passports and they cannot travel abroad, but are free to travel within the country, the court had held.

The cricketer was arrested along with his other IPL teammates Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila on May 16 from Mumbai by the Delhi Police. Chandila, who had not applied for bail, is still in jail.
