Cape Town:
Kallis was hit on the chest by a Sreesanth delivery during his marathon 161 that propelled South Africa to a competitive first-innings total in the third and final Test against India.
"Jacques took a blow to the side of the chest and has a contusion on the right rib with an accompanying muscle strain. He will definitely bat if needed to in the second innings but won't take the field when India bat," team manager Mohammed Moosajee said.
"A recovery time of two weeks (is expected) and he will probably miss the first two one-day internationals. If he aggravates it, it could stretch to four," he added.
Kallis was the mainstay of the South African innings and added 79 valuable runs with the last two wickets.
