IPL 2025 Retention Highlights: Lucknow Super Giants have not retained their captain and wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul, said PTI in a report. It added that Rahul's 'unacceptable' strike rate over the past three years in Indian Premier League played a crucial role in the franchise coming to the decision. KL Rahul joined LSG ahead of IPL 2022 and his strike rate in the season was 135.38. The very next year it dipped to 113.22 -- his third-lowest in IPL history before the player made a remakable comeback with a strike rate of 136.13 in the year 2024. The BCCI has set a deadline of October 31 for the franchises to finalize their retentions. (Also Read: Virat Kohli To Lead RCB In IPL 2025)
Here are the Highlights of the Indian Premier League 2025 Retentions:
- 22:41 (IST)IPL Retentions Live: Here is why LSG didn't pick KL Rahul -KL Rahul's inability to adapt to the ever-changing dynamics of T20 batting cost him his retention at Lucknow Super Giants with the franchise opting for an alpha finisher in Nicholas Pooran as per the preferences of head coach Justin Langer and mentor Zaheer Khan, said a PTI report. "The only consideration at LSG was performance in the last three years and especially Rahul's own batting style and strike rate which are important variables while a decision is arrived at," a source tracking development in LSG told PTI on Wednesday. "So Langer and Zaheer sat with all the numbers... Rahul's SR for three years with LSG is 136.13 (616 runs), 113.23 (274) and 135.38 (520). In today's T20, when even Indian team had to change its philosophy, these numbers weren't acceptable," the source added.

Former India batter Aakash Chopra feels that he would fetch a massive sum. The price could even go to Rs 25 crore to 30 crore. "It's being heard that Rishabh Pant might be available at the auction. He is a keeper-batter. Although the jury is out, many people say his numbers in T20s are not that good, had only one breakthrough season in the IPL and hasn't scored too many runs apart from that. I can give you in writing that the bank would be broken if his name comes in the auction," Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
