Hot Spot continues to baffle with Parthiv's dismissal

Hot Spot once again failed to detect an edge when Indian opener Parthiv Patel was dismissed caught behind off a James Anderson delivery in the 2nd ODI at Southampton. (Also Read: Dravid's wicket raises doubts on DRS again)

There was no review this time and Parthiv was given out by the field umpire after getting a faint edge off the Anderson delivery. However, the edge failed to show up on the hot spot later on, although the snickometer detected it.

Hot spot has continued to baffle experts, players and fans alike and has been hotly debated after several controversial decisions.

Cricketer Aakash Chopra tweeted after the incident. "Hotspot didn't detect the edge, once again. Did we even know its efficiency when we agreed to using it? Or were we forced to use it?"

A similar incident had happened in the 1st ODI at Chester-le-Street when Rahul Dravid was ruled out caught behind by the third umpire despite Hot Spot not detecting en edge off his bat.

However, snickometer, which is not part of the UDRS, later suggested that there was a contact between the ball and the bat.

That decision yet again brought technological shortcomings to the fore under the UDRS system.

England paceman Stuart Broad appealed for a catch behind the wicket off his own bowling on the fourth ball of the 18th over but umpire Billy Doctrove ruled not out.

Broad straight away opted for the review. Third umpire Marais Erasmus from South Africa took help of Hot Spot but even after several replays the edge could not be established, though a sound was definitely there.

The replays were shown on the giant screen in the ground and fans along with the players expected the not out decision by Doctrove to stand.

However, much to the astonishment of the fans and the batsman, Erasmus ruled Dravid out.
