England batsman Eoin Morgan was on Tuesday ruled out of the remainder of the ODI series against India due to a right shoulder injury.
Morgan first suffered the injury during England's Ashes tour of Australia earlier this year with the injury flaring up after the recent one-off Twenty20 fixture against India at Old Trafford.
England chief medical officer, Dr Nick Peirce, said: "Eoin initially developed discomfort in his right shoulder during the Ashes tour in the winter and has been managing the injury until now with a conservative program. Unfortunately there has been an acute flare in his pain which has not responded to treatment.
"This is a chronic injury and predominantly effects Eoin's diving and throwing. He now requires a progression in his treatment and will undertake further specialist assessment in the next week before a decision on his forthcoming treatment will be determined."
This has been an injury plagued series with India being the big sufferers. A total of 8 Indian players to have come to England for the tour have been ruled out at different stages. These include Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Ishant Sharma, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Rohit Sharma and Sachin Tendulkar.
