c Ollie Robinson b Craig Overton
36.4 OUT! CAUGHT! Oh, dear! The same story continues for Rohit Sharma. He looks to play the pull shot, but he gives an easy catch to the silly mid on fielder. He has played 105 balls, but he has put all of that down the drain as he gifts his wicket away. Craig Overton runs in and hurls a short delivery, around off, the ball does not come onto the bat nicely as Rohit Sharma looks set to play the pull shot. He miscues it and the ball takes the lower half of the blade and lobs towards Ollie Robinson at silly mid on, who will take this in his sleep. So, obviously, he does the same while he is awake. India slip further as they lose their sixth wicket! 67/6

KL Rahul | 4 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
c Jos Buttler b James Anderson
0.5 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! This is a great start by England and they have struck in the very first over. This is just what they would have wanted after the Lord's Test. This is well set-up by Jimmy, as in the previous ball, he bowled a ball in the channel outside off, which nipped back in significantly and hence, Rahul went to play at this, keeping in mind the inswing. Usually, when there is a delivery in such a channel, KL has been wary and has left it, but this time, he goes chasing after this and pays the price, as this delivery nipped away late and caught the edge. James Anderson runs in and serves a fuller ball, in the fourth stump channel, gets it to move away as well. KL Rahul looks for the big, booming drive through the off side, but only manages an outside edge, which is easily gulped down by Jos Buttler behind the sticks. The crowd is loving it and India's opening stand does not last the first over! 1/1
Cheteshwar Pujara | 1 | 9 | 0 | 0 | 11.11 |
c Jos Buttler b James Anderson
4.1 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! What a start this is for Anderson and England. They have struck again and India's wall, Pujara, has been breached. Anderson probes with his line and length and makes Pujara play at this, which proves to be his undoing. Again, he dishes a couple of inswingers and poses a question on Pujara's mind, then, he serves an outswinger in the zone of uncertainty and gets the better of Pujara. On a length this time, around the off pole, the ball hits the deck and nips away beautifully. Cheteshwar Pujara pokes his blade at this, looking to defend, but the ball catches the outside edge, due to the away movement. Jos Buttler dives low to his right and pouches this. India have started off poorly and the crowd are loving it! 4/2
Virat Kohli C | 7 | 17 | 1 | 0 | 41.17 |
c Jos Buttler b James Anderson
10.5 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! This is a huge wicket for James Anderson and England, as they get to see the back of the Indian captain. In another episode of the Jimmy vs VK show, it is the English veteran who has come out on top again. Length ball, around the fifth stump channel. Virat Kohli plays a very loose-looking shot, as he looks to drive through covers but the ball nips away slightly, and he only manages an outside edge and Jos Buttler behind the sticks does the rest. Anderson is pumped up and India are three down inside the first hour of play and they are in some trouble now. 21/3
Ajinkya Rahane | 18 | 54 | 3 | 0 | 33.33 |
c Jos Buttler b Ollie Robinson
25.5 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Ollie Robinson has struck for England in the last over before Lunch and India are in deep trouble now. Good-length ball, around the fifth stump channel. Ajinkya Rahane hangs his bat at it and gets an outside edge towards Jos Buttler behind the sticks, who pouches it comfortably. Ollie Robinson gets rid of India's vice-captain, just when he was looking to steady the innings with his batting partner. England are bossing this game now and they will be a happier team going into Lunch on Day 1. With that, IT IS LUNCH ON DAY 1! 56/4
Rishabh Pant Wk | 2 | 9 | 0 | 0 | 22.22 |
c Jos Buttler b Ollie Robinson
29.1 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Ollie Robinson gets rid of the dangerous Rishabh Pant and India are 5 down now. Another catch for Buttler and he has been a busy man in this Test so far. Pant has struggled to get into a good rhythm in this series so far and the same story continues. Back-of-a-length ball, angling away outside off. Rishabh Pant could have left it alone, but he decides to poke at this and gets an outside edge towards Jos Buttler, who takes his 5th catch of the innings. Ollie Robinson is delighted and England will look to get these remaining wickets quickly as India have a long tail. 58/5
Ravindra Jadeja | 4 | 29 | 0 | 0 | 13.79 |
lbw b Sam Curran
37.2 OUT! LBW! Another one bites the dust and India are falling apart here. Wonderfully bowled by Curran and the only recognized batter has been sent packing. Sam Curran digs in a yorker this time, taking Jadeja by surprise. Jadeja gets his bat down late and misses as the ball takes the pad and goes to the keeper. A loud appeal and the umpire raises his finger. India have all three of their reviews left and so, Jadeja takes the review. No bat shows the UltraEdge. Ball Tracker shows THREE REDS. The on-field decision stays on and England just need 2 more wickets to bundle India! 67/8
Mohammed Shami | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
c Rory Burns b Craig Overton
36.5 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Overton gets back-to-back wickets and England are on fire here. The hero of the Lord's Test, Shami, has to walk back for a golden duck. 67/7 - a depressing scoreline if you are supporting India. Back of a length this time, around off, Mohammed Shami hops and looks to defend, but only gets an outside edge. The ball goes to the right of third slip, where Rory Burns moves that side and pouches this. Craig Overton is on a hat-trick here! 67/7

lbw b Sam Curran
37.3 OUT! LBW! BACK-TO-BACK! India are at 67/9 now! This time, Curran serves a length delivery around middle and leg, Bumrah looks to flick this to the leg side but misses. Curran appeals and runs away in celebration as the umpire raises his finger. Bumrah takes the review but it does not work out as UltraEdge shows no bat and Ball Tracker shows three reds. One more wicket away are the Brits. Sam Curran is on a hat-trick too! 67/9
Mohammed Siraj | 3 | 10 | 0 | 0 | 30 |
c Joe Root b Craig Overton
40.4 OUT! CAUGHT! There it is! What a comeback this has been from the English bowlers. Overton serves a good-length ball, down leg, Siraj makes room on the off side. Siraj looks to cut this one over the slip cordon but he fails to get any elevation and the ball goes towards Joe Root at first slip who jumps to take a good catch. INDIA HAVE BEEN BOWLED OUT FOR 78! 78/10

50 OUT! TIMBER! That's the one Shami was looking for. He finds the breakthrough that India were hunting for so while. The Birthday Boy could not gift himself a ton, he will be disappointed. But he surely has given his team a dream start after a long, long time. Shami serves it full and around off. The ball nips in a bit. Burns looks to defend it out but gets beaten. The ball goes through the gap between bat and pad. The ball comes in contact with the off stump. Some delight in the Indian camp finally. 135/1
Haseeb Hameed | 68 | 195 | 12 | 0 | 34.87 |
b Ravindra Jadeja
63 OUT! TIMBER! Ravindra Jadeja gets his first wicket of the series! What a time to get the breakthrough! Jadeja bowls a loopy ball around off, Haseeb Hameed puts a big stride forward. He looks to defend but the ball turns just enough to get past his willow. Hameed misses out and the ball crashes the top of the off pole. Hameed was looking very good but has to depart. He is disappointed. Jubilation for India and dejection for Haseeb Hameed. 159/2
Dawid Malan | 70 | 128 | 11 | 0 | 54.68 |
c Rishabh Pant b Mohammed Siraj
94 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Virat Kohli trusted his bowler and went for the review reluctantly. Siraj serves a length ball, down the leg side. Malan stays back and looks to flick it away but misses. Was there some noise? Few of the Indian players put up an appeal, but the umpire is not interested. Even Pant was not excited. Siraj though convinces the skipper and they take it upstairs. The UltraEdge shows there was some spike as the ball passed the bat. India strike right at the stroke of tea. THAT WILL BE TEA ON DAY 2. 298/3
Joe Root C | 121 | 165 | 14 | 0 | 73.33 |
b Jasprit Bumrah
117.2 OUT! TIMBER! Jasprit gets the better of Root! Just the wicket India wanted. End of an outstanding innings, he walks off to a huge round of applause! He though misses a straight delivery, it probably just stayed a little low. India too were in a little bit of disbelief as to how has he missed it and hence it was a mild celebration. Or maybe they are quite behind the game and hence, it was a mild one. This lands on off and comes in with the angle. Root ends up playing outside the line. It goes between bat and pad and hits the middle pole. The skipper yet again has done his job. Can India now make quick work of the last 4 wickets? 383/6
Jonny Bairstow | 29 | 43 | 4 | 1 | 67.44 |
c Virat Kohli b Mohammed Shami
107.3 OUT! TAKEN! That is a really good catch from the skipper. Shami bowls a length ball just around off, Jonny Bairstow couldn't resist and has a poke at it. The ball nips away just enough to find the outside edge. It flies towards Virat Kohli at first slip who takes a good low catch moving to his left. Mohammed Shami gets the breakthrough. Jonny Bairstow walks back to the pavilion. 350/4
Jos Buttler Wk | 7 | 12 | 1 | 0 | 58.33 |
c Ishant Sharma b Mohammed Shami
111.3 OUT! TAKEN! Jos Buttler's drought of runs continues! Shami bowls it on the pads, Jos Buttler flicks it but straight to the fielder at square leg. Ishant Sharma is stationed there and takes the simplest of catches. Jos Buttler is disappointed with himself. Virat Kohli is pumped up. Half the side back in the hut now for England. Mohammed Shami gets his third. 360/5
Moeen Ali | 8 | 18 | 1 | 0 | 44.44 |
c sub Axar Patel b Ravindra Jadeja
118.4 OUT! TAKEN! Ravindra Jadeja bags another! Flurry of wickets for India. Jadeja bowls a flatter ball on off, Moeen Ali lifts it straight down the throat of the mid on fielder who is a little deep. Axar Patel, the substitute fielder completes the catch without any trouble. Moeen Ali is livid with himself. 383/7
Sam Curran | 15 | 30 | 2 | 0 | 50 |
c sub Mayank Agarwal b Mohammed Siraj
127.1 OUT! CAUGHT! Short ball on middle, it is well over Curran's head. Sam Curran still goes for the hook shot. He throws the kitchen sink at it but he fails to get on top of the bounce, it goes off the top edge and down the throat of the fielder at deep square leg. Mayank Agarwal, the substitute fielder, is present there and held onto the catch. England lose their eighth wicket. Mohammed Siraj strikes and roars. He is delighted. The hook is probably not the right shot to play, we have seen Rohit get out to that shot a few times and now Curran. 418/8
Craig Overton | 32 | 42 | 6 | 0 | 76.19 |
lbw b Mohammed Shami
131.5 OUT! LBW! Shami strikes early for India! Full ball, on off. Overton looks to work it to the leg side but gets hit on the pads. The umpire raises the finger right away. The review is taken by Overton. But UltraEdge has a flat line and Ball Tracker shows three reds. 431/9

47.4 OUT! LBW! Umpire's call sends Rohit Sharma back! He is very disappointed. Ollie Robinson strikes just after Tea and this is exactly what England wanted. It has come against the run of play as well, as Rohit was looking very settled out in the middle. Ollie Robinson fires a full ball, angling in, on middle. Sharma looks to whip it away but the ball comes back in just a touch and hits him on the pads. England put in a big appeal and the umpire raises the finger. Sharma reviews this. There is no bat on that one but Ball Tracker has umpire's call on wickets hitting the outer half of the leg pole! This is just what England needed to start this session. A really, really good knock by Sharma ends. He would have wanted to carry on to score a big one. He whacks the ground in anger and walks back to the hut. 116/2

KL Rahul | 8 | 54 | 0 | 0 | 14.81 |
c Jonny Bairstow b Craig Overton
19 OUT! EDGED AND CAUGHT! What a catch this is by Bairstow. Wonderful delivery too from Overton and just at the stroke of Lunch, KL Rahul's innings has been cut short. Outstanding piece of cricket from England and they will head back as the happier side. Overton serves this on a length, around the off pole, KL Rahul is forced to play at this due to the angle, but the ball nips away enough to catch the outside edge. The ball goes in between Joe Root (first slip) and Jonny Bairstow (second slip) and Bairstow dives to his left and takes a one-handed stunner. Jubilation for England here. THAT WILL BE LUNCH ON DAY 3! 34/1
Cheteshwar Pujara | 91 | 189 | 15 | 0 | 48.14 |
lbw b Ollie Robinson
83.3 OUT! PUJARA IS GONE! Robinson has hit the jackpot. He comes up with a full delivery around off, shaping back in, Pujara offers no shot and takes it on his back pad. They appeal but the umpire stays still. Root has a word with his bowler and the keeper. This time he goes for the referral in time. Remember, the impact won't be an issue here as the batter was not offering any shot. The Ball Tracker rolls in and it shows three reds. Huge roar from the English players, they have got an early success this morning and it's the big wicket of Pujara. Surely, there was an error in judgement from Cheteshwar Pujara, he was undone first by the fuller length and then by the extravagant inward movement. To worsen the situation, he was hit on the back pad. Had that been on the front pad, it could have headed over the stumps. Once again he misses out on scoring a century. 215/3
Virat Kohli C | 55 | 125 | 8 | 0 | 44 |
c Joe Root b Ollie Robinson
90 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! There it is! You are never settled as a batter in England and even though Kohli just got to his fifty in this over, he has to depart. Joe Root takes the catch and it is quite poetic how the English skipper plays a part in removing the Indian captain. Root seems pretty happy with his work. Back of a length, just around the off pole, the ball lands and holds its line slightly as Virat Kohli looks to block this one out with an angled bat. The ball catches the outside edge and goes to the left of Joe Root at first slip, who moves that side and makes no mistake. Two quick wickets and India are on the back foot now. Both the overnight batters have been sent packing and England are smelling blood. India are still behind by 117 runs! 237/4
Ajinkya Rahane | 10 | 25 | 2 | 0 | 40 |
c Jos Buttler b James Anderson
91 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Third wicket goes down for India this morning and England are celebrating big. Needless from Rahane. Anderson delivers it on a length and just outside off, it lands and moves away slightly, Rahane should have looked to defend it close to his body but needless hangs his bat out in defense. The ball moves away, takes a thick outside edge and goes to the keeper. As soon as Jos Buttler catches it, Joe Root jumps in delight. The crowd is loving it. India have now lost 5 wickets and staring down the barrel. 239/5
Rishabh Pant Wk | 1 | 7 | 0 | 0 | 14.28 |
c Craig Overton b Ollie Robinson
91.5 OUT! CAUGHT AT SLIPS! Pant gets out defending. Hmm... Maybe, that's why he was swinging his bat. Ollie Robinson has shown great discipline this morning. His lines have been exemplary and he has altered his lengths superbly as well. This one is served in the channel outside off and the natural angle of the bowler takes it away from the left-hander. Pant could have left it alone but he wants to feel the ball. Goes after it with a defensive bat and edges it to third slip. Craig Overton has safe hands and England are four wickets away now from making it 1-1 in the series. 239/6
Ravindra Jadeja | 30 | 25 | 5 | 1 | 120 |
c Jos Buttler b Craig Overton
99.1 OUT! EDGED AND CAUGHT! Overton joins the party now! Brilliant work from him and another Indian batter takes a sad, long walk back to the shed. Jadeja walks back and there goes India's last shot at avoiding an innings defeat. On a length by Overton, landing closer to off and then leaving the batter. Ravindra Jadeja looks to defend but that proves to be his undoing, as the outside edge is caught. Another catch that Jos Buttler is not going to drop. England are one more wicket away from levelling the series. 278/9
Mohammed Shami | 6 | 8 | 1 | 0 | 75 |
b Moeen Ali
94.2 OUT! SOUND OF TIMBER! Shami is done for this Test match. Big turn for the off spinner. Moeen gives it a good toss and lands it on a fuller length outside off, it probably lands on one of the footmarks and breaks back in sharply. Shami tries to push it through the line by getting forward but it spins back in to beat his bat and goes on to shatter the stumps. England inching closer. Can they pick the remaining wickets before Lunch? 254/7
Ishant Sharma | 2 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 40 |
c Jos Buttler b Ollie Robinson
95.5 OUT! EDGED AND CAUGHT! Wicket number 5 for Robinson and he is on fire! The Indian batters just keep following each other back to the shed. None of them are showing any sort of resistance. Ollie serves this on a length, closer to the off pole, makes Ishant have a poke at this, but the ball holds its line after landing. Kisses the outside edge and Jos Buttler has an easy catch. We are nearing the curtains on this game. Just 2 more wickets away, are the Three Lions! 257/8

99.3 OUT! EDGED AND CAUGHT! It is all done! There is the game. It has not taken long for England in the morning session on Day 4 to wrap the game up. Brilliant work from England and Overton finishes proceedings. Craig Overton bowls this one on a length, closer to the off pole, it lands and shapes away. Mohammed Siraj looks to block but the outside edge is induced. Jonny Bairstow, at second slip, dives to his right and pouches this. ENGLAND WIN BY AN INNINGS AND 76 RUNS AND LEVEL THE SERIES 1-1! 278/10
