A draw in the fourth Test could see India lose No.1 ranking to Pakistan
Heavy rains wrecked havoc on day one of the fourth and final cricket Test between India and the West Indies at Port-of-Spain in Trinidad.
The start was delayed for 30 minutes due to a wet outfield and West Indies chose to bat after winning the toss. Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara returned to the side, replacing Shikhar Dhawan and Ravindra Jadeja. For the hosts, Devendra Bishoo replaced Alzarri Joseph.
West Indies managed a steady start, with Leon Johnson and Karlos Brathwaite putting on 31 for the opening wicket. However, Johnson failed to keep down a lifter from Ishant Sharma as he gave a catch to short leg.
R Ashwin got the better of Dwayne Bravo but Brathwaite continued to bat steadily as West Indies managed 66/2 before rain lashed the Queen Park's Oval with 15 minutes to go for the lunch session.
Rain refused to relent and with the ground having only one super-sopper, the cleaning up operations were time-consuming. Play was called off an hour after the lunch break.
India are currently the World No.1 ranked Test side in the world but a draw in the fourth Test could see them lose the No.1 ranking to Pakistan, who recently drew the four-match series against England 2-2. The weather is not looking too promising for the remainder of the Test match.
Brief Scores:
West Indies 1st innings: 66/2 in 22 overs. (Kraigg Brathwaite 32*; Ishant Sharma 1/7, R Ashwin 1/22).
