He is now the 1st to score an innings of 90 or more in 8 straight series
Ajinkya Rahane has a niche for scoring centuries abroad. On Monday, he struck his first Test ton against the West Indies in Jamaica, which was also his seventh in the longest format.
Out of the seven, five have come abroad - New Zealand, England, Australia, Sri Lanka and West Indies. Apart from South Africa and Bangladesh, Rahane has scored a ton in every country that he has played in.
Against South Africa and Bangladesh also he missed tons narrowly with his highest scores being 96 (in 2014) and 98 (in 2015) respectively.
Glorious feats
With this ton Rahane has scored three centuries in his last four Test innings. He had scored tons in both innings of the Delhi Test against South Africa in December, 2015.
He is now the only player to have played at least one innings of 90 or more runs, in eight consecutive Test series, starting from India's tour of South Africa in 2013-14.
Patient knock
On the third day of the second Test, Rahane started on 42 and took his time to reach the century runs mark. He and Wriddhiman Saha were involved in a 98-run stand for the sixth wicket that ultimately helped India take a 304-run lead over West Indies.
After the departure of Saha (47), India lost two quick wickets of Mohammed Shami and Amit Mishra as the hopes of a 300-plus lead started looking bleak. But then Rahane increased the tempo as he hit spinner Roston Chase for a four, to reach the three-figure mark in 231 balls.
He stayed unbeaten at 108 as India captain Virat Kohli declared at 500/9, giving West Indies a stiff challenge to save the Test.
