India, aiming to fix their unimpressive record away from the sub-continent, are in commanding position in the Antigua Test.
Virat Kohli became the first Indian captain to post a Test double century overseas as the tourists played their way into a virtually unbeatable position on the second day of the first Test on Friday.
Kohli scored 200 as India hit 566 for eight declared, sharing a 168-run fifth stand wicket with Ravichandran Ashwin (113), who was dropped on 43 by wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich and made the West Indies pay by compiling a century.
West Indies were 31 for one in their first innings at the close of play with Kraigg Brathwaite (11) and nightwatchman Devendra Bishoo (0) at the crease.
Since last touring West Indies in 2011, when they ground out a 1-0 Test series victory (with two draws), India have lost six consecutive series outside of Asia -- two each in England and Australia and one each in South Africa and New Zealand.
Their record in that time is one win, 15 defeats and five draws. That does not include a 2-1 series victory in Sri Lanka last year, where conditions are typically similar to those encountered at home.
