There is no bigger rivalry in cricket than the one in Ashes. Little surprise then that there is no greater joy than humiliating the opposition to level the series at 1-1. Such were the celebration in the Aussie camp after their dominant win at Lord's last week that several star players opted to rejoice the triumph with a night out in London.
Australia lost the first Test at Cardiff but hit back hard with a 405-run win inside four days at The Lord's on Sunday. While Steve Smith, along with partner Dani Willis, Mitchell Marsh and his partner Isabelle Platt, and Peter Siddle chose to dig into kebabs at a Lebanese restaurant, several others decided to check out the nightclubs in the capital city. The upbeat mood in the Aussie camp is largely due to the fact that the five-match series is level at 1-1 and the next match - at Edgebaston - is not until July 29. While there may be a lot of time to regroup and plan how to take the lead, not everyone in the touring party is content in taking it easy. Coach Darren Lehmann has selection issues ahead of the match. This especially after Chris Rogers suffered a dizzy spell during the second Test, leaving a question mark on his further availability. The team management will also have to take a call on whether to continue with young Peter Neville or bring back veteran Brad Haddin, who had opted out of second Test due to 'personal reasons.' Nonetheless, the largely jovial mood is quite understandable and is in sharp contrast to the ambiance in the English camp. Somber after a rather jolting loss, captain Alastair Cook and coach Trevor Bayliss have quickly turned to the drawing board to draw out new plans. A win means the world to both teams and many believe the result of the third match can firmly give direction to which way the Ashes 2015 series will swing.
