The Ashes: England players celebrate the urn by urinating on Oval pitch

In a strange postscript to their Ashes triumph, England players celebrated by urinating on the pitch at The Oval. According to a report in the Herald Sun, many players including Kevin Pietersen, Stuart Broad and James Anderson took turns to urinate on the wicket. They were cheered on by their teammates as the Ashes celebration had moved from the dressing room to the pitch.

The final Test match of the Ashes series ended in a dramatic draw on Sunday after umpires took the players off for bad light, with England needing 21 to win in four overs. There was controversy surrounding the ending and the umpires, Aleem Dar and Kumar Dharmasena, and Australian skipper Michael Clarke were booed by the home crowd. The game ended at 7:30pm local time and the champagne flowed soon after with the English players -- led by skipper Alastair Cook -- on a lap of honour to commemorate their 3-0 series victory. A few hours later the players came down from the dressing room and gathered around the pitch, which was dry and dusty for most part of the Test match. However the English made sure it was 'watered', a sight that could be seen from the overflow areas of the press box.

The incident was similar to a pitch party at the WACA in Perth two years ago, when Indian media took footage of ground staff drinking on the wicket.

One thing is for certain, the curator at The Oval will not be too impressed by the English players' sense of 'gardening'.
