21:45 (IST): Warner looking solid at the crease as he is eager to make ise of this opportunity having been in the news for the wrong reasons off late.

 

21:15 (IST): Australia go into tea at 120/1 in 33 overs. David Warner is unbeaten on 57 while Usman Khawaja is on 6.

 

21:01 (IST): Chris Rogers is out! He falls for 49 edging Swann to slips and England have a wicket. England 109/1 in 29.2 overs, Target: 299.

20:20 (IST): It's been an hour into the second session and Australian openers have looked dominant. Australia 80 for no loss after 20 overs, need 219 more. Warner 37*, Rogers 36*.

20:14 (IST): Australia are scoring at over 4 runs an over. Australia 74 for no loss after 18 overs, need 225 more.

20:04 (IST): David Warner slams the first six of the match in the very first over of Graeme Swann. He goes down the track and plays it inside out over extra cover for a maximum. Australia 67 for no loss, need 232 more.

19:51 (IST): Chris Rogers and David Warner have provided just the kind of start Australia needed. While Rogers is looking a bit tentative, Warner his batting freely. Australia 50 for no loss, need 249 more.

19:40 (IST): DROPPED! Chris Rogers is living dangerously here. This time he is dropped by Graeme Swann at second slip off Tim Bresnan. Australia 35 for no loss, need 264 more.

19:35 (IST): Chris Rogers survives as third umpires rules him not out. He was given out caught behind off James Anderson and he opted for DRS, which suggested ball brushed his thigh pad. Australia 30 for no loss, need 269 more.

19:22 (IST): Stuart Broad has started proceedings of the post lunch session. Australia 12/0 (Chris Rogers 6* and David Warner 2*).

19:12 (IST): Good news! It's bright and sunny at Chester-le-Street and play will resume soon. Only two overs are lost in the day. Tea will be taken at 16:45 local time (21:15 IST). Play can be extended till 11.30 IST.

18:49 (IST): Rain came in for the second time but it looks clear now and the groundstaff are at work. The umpires will take another look.

18:16 (IST): It has stopped raining at the moment. But the covers are still on. Both umpires are on the ground to inspect.

17:31 (IST): LUNCH! That's the end of first session's play on Day 4. Australia are 11 for no loss with David Warner (2) and Chris Rogers (5) at the crease. The visitors now need 288 runs more to beat England.

17:22 (IST): England waste one review as they take it for an lbw call against Chris Rogers. Australia 8/0, need 291 more for a win.

17:10 (IST): Australian openers David Warner and Chris Rogers are out in the middle and as usual James Anderson takes the new ball.

17:00 (IST): WICKET! That's it. Nathan Lyon gets the final wicket as England are bowled out for 330 in their second innings and set Australia a target of 299 runs. Ryan Harris takes 7/117 while Lyon finishes with 3/53. Ian Bell top scored with 113. Tim Bresnan 45, Kevin Pietersen 44 were other notable contributors.

16:56 (IST): DROPPED! Steven Smith drops Graeme Swann on 17. Swann looks to go over the top but skies to long on. Smith misjudges it and drops a sitter. England 318 for 9, lead by 286 runs.

16:53 (IST): WICKET! Tim Bresnan (45) out. Bresnan tries to drive Harris towards the on side, but ends up playing it straight to bowler for a simple catch. England 317 for 9, lead by 285 runs.

16:17 (IST): WICKET! Stuart Broad departs. It's Ryan Harris once again. Broad, who was looking aggressive in his short stint, is undone by a bouncer. He edges to Steven Smith at gully. England 275 for 8, lead by 243 runs.

16:04 (IST): WICKET! First ball duck for Matt Prior. This time it nips back in sharply and with a good bounce. Prior tries to defend it but ends up dragging it onto stumps. With that Harris takes his fourth fifer and is now on a hat-trick. England 251 for 7, lead by 219 runs.

16:02 (IST): WICKET! Ian Bell (113) out. Ryan Harris keeps it outside off and Bell is a bit late in bringing his bat down on time. It keeps low and takes the inside edge of the willow onto stumps. England 251 for 6, lead by 219 runs.


15:52 (IST): 250 comes up for England and the lead now grows to 218 over Australia. Bell (113*), Bresnan (12*) have added 29 runs for the 6th wicket.

14:45 (IST): A recap of first three days - The Day 1 belonged to Australia as Nathan Lyon emerged the star by bagging 4 wickets with only England skipper getting a half-century. On second day, opener Chris Rogers became the second oldest Australian to score his maiden Test century. The day also saw Shane Watson regaining his lost form by scoring a fifty at a strike rate of almost 50. On the third day, Stuart Broad bagged his ninth five-wicket haul while Ian Bell struck his 20th century to help the hosts gain a lead of 202 runs.

13:10 (IST): STAT! Ian Bell is the third England batsman after Maurice Leyland (1934) and David Gower (1985) to manage three hundreds in a Test series vs Australia in England.

13:00 (IST): Partnering Bell (105*) at the moment is Tim Bresnan, who is on 5*. Ryan Harris, yesterday, claimed three wickets - Alastair Cook, Joe Root and Jonathan Trott - to rip through England's top order. Spinner Nathan Lyon chipped in with the other two wickets in the day. Bell, having twice made 109 in England's victories at Trent Bridge and Lord's, has given the hosts hope of securing a win in this match that would see them take the five-match series outright. England have retained the Ashes after winning the first two and drawing the third at Manchester.

12:45 (IST): England ended the third day's play on 234/5 with a lead of 202 runs. Ian Bell continued his good form to notch up his third century of the series - his 20th overall. Kevin Pietersen's 44 came at a crucial time when England were struggling at 49 for 3. From there on, both Bell and KP put on 106 runs for the fourth wicket to bail out the hosts.
