Sania Mirza was over the top after she won the women's doubles title at Wimbledon 2015 with her Swiss partner Martina Hingis.
"This is the best tennis I have ever played," Sania told NDTV after winning her maiden women's doubles title at a Grand Slam. "This is special given it is the Wimbledon," she told NDTV. (Highlights)
It was Mirza's maiden women's doubles title at a Grand Slam although she has won three mixed doubles at the majors.
Hingis can be back amongst the silverware on Sunday when she and Leander Paes face Alexander Peya and Timea Babos in the mixed doubles championship match. Sania said she would wait for her celebrations.
"I will cheer for Martina and Leander in Sunday's final" she told NDTV.
Sania's father Imran was emotional and told NDTV: "I broke the Ramzan fast and exactly at that moment she won the last point and the match."
Hingis, 34, and 28-year-old Sania came from a set down and 2-5 behind in the final set to beat Russian duo Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina 5-7, 7-6 (7/4), 7-5. Sania told NDTV the Russian opponents were very aggressive but added that she knew the match was going her way. "We knew they were going to come hard at us but we also knew our strength - which is return. We played the best when we needed to and that's what matters at the end," Sania said.
It was the top seeds' first Grand Slam title as a team having only decided to play together in March this year. Sania revealed the secret behind her growing success with the legendary Hingis, who made her name years ago as a singles specialist. "Martina and I are compatible off court; I can't play with someone I can't get along with, Sania told NDTV.
Sania, who is married to former Pakistani skipper Shoaib Malik also took a friendly dig at her husband. Malik smashed an half-century in the team's victory over Sri Lanka in the first ODI of a three-match series, but Sania said she felt she had bragging rights. "Our family has had a decent day with Shoaib scoring a fifty for Pakistan."
