Former Indian cricket team fast bowler S Sreesanth picks youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal over Shubman Gill in his squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. Sreesanth named his 15-member squad for the World Cup and besides Gill's exclusion, pace sensation Mayank Yadav was also a surprise pick for the competition. The fast bowler impressed everyone with his rapid pace for Lucknow Super Giants in the ongoing IPL 2024 and he even delivered the fastest ball of this year's competition at 156.7 Kmph. While the youngster has suffered with injuries, there has been a lot of chatter surrounding his inclusion in the team for World Cup.
Sreesanth picked skipper Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal as his openers with Virat Kohli potentially being another option. The batters in the side, according to him, were Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube. Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav were the spin options in the side.
When it comes to the wicket-keepers, there was no place for Dinesh Karthik or Ishan Kishan as Sreesanth went with Rishabh Pant (his vice-captain choice as well) and Sanju Samson.
In the fast bowling department, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Mayank Yadav were his picks while Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya were the all-rounders options in the 15-member squad.
Siraj has not enjoyed a good run of form in the ongoing IPL 2024 and his inclusion will be a major bone of contention among the selectors. Even Arshdeep Singh has somewhat struggled in some matches and other left-handed pacers like T Natarajan and Khaleel Ahmed can find a place depending on their performances.
S Sreesanth's India squad for T20 World Cup 2024: Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Shivam Dube, Mayank Yadav, Sanju Samson.
