Michelle Obama, Beyond Just Being FLOTUS
She's charming, she's fashionable, she's poised and bright but Michelle Obama is a lot more than just being 'First Lady of the United States'. Mrs. Obama is using her status not just to build a cosmetic reputation but to help tackle namely the biggest health epidemic in today's time- Obesity. We salute her efforts in health, nutrition and sport.

Special athlete Ranveer Saini, 14, is the 1st Indian golfer to take part in the Special Olympics World Games. Speaking to NDTV a few days back, the autistic golfer's eye lit up when he was told that 'Michelle Aunty' (Michelle Obama) as he calls her was hosting a special dinner for the athletes and that she was going to be present at the Games. And that's the kind of appeal that the 'First Lady' has for kids and grown-ups alike.
Michelle Obama kicked off the 2015 Special Olympics on Saturday at Los Angeles. The event has as many as 7000 athletes from 177 countries and Mrs. Obama is at the heart of it all, just a small scalp in her large list of achievements.
Okay, so what's been her biggest draw? This year Michelle Obama's 'Let's Move' campaign completed 5 solid years. The campaign fights childhood obesity in the US and has targeted schools, parents and children, all in a bid to have a fitter and healthier America. She's fought Republicans, food companies; the toughest battle tough was fighting school children and indifferent attitudes. The results however have been astounding.
Like any other mission, it all begins at home. Michelle Obama has modelled her own family into a healthy eating unit. She got tremendous support from President Obama himself and his landmark 2010 Affordable Care Act forced chain restaurants to publish the calorie content of their meals.
Digest this; the White House now even has a vegetable garden and a bee hive harvesting! What's more, the World's largest Navy fleet, the US Navy also took cue and has banned fried food from its dining halls.
Michelle Obama is very active in the Girl scouts programme and the 'Let's Move' initiative has an integral corollary of 'Let's Move Outside'. Michelle Obama is often see posting dance fitness videos, gym workout videos and has often spoken about how she plans to continue working on her mission well beyond her days at the White House. Here's to a healthier future, not only for the United States but the world at large.
