Injuries to key overseas players have given George Bailey another Indian Premier League lifeline. Bailey, the former Australian Twenty20 skipper, left in the cold after a disastrous IPL 2015 where he led Kings XI Punjab, has been called up by IPL debutants Rising Pune Supergiants.
Bailey will replace Faf du Plessis in a RPS squad reeling under injuries to key overseas players. Du Plessis, the South African Twenty20 skipper, retired hurt from the tournament after injuring his finger. He will be out for six weeks.
Bailey did not find a buyer in this year's IPL auctions. He had a base price of Rs 1 crore but his poor run with Kings XI Punjab did not inspire even the new teams, Rising Pune Supergiants or the Gujarat Lions.
RPS have been hard hit by injuries. They have lost four frontline batsmen -- Kevin Pietersen, Du Plessis, Mitchell Marsh and Steven Smith. Pune are sixth in the eight-team championship with just two wins from eight games.
