In a catch attempt that will be watched again and again in the times to come, Dwayne Bravo left cricket fans absolutely stunned this Sunday. In the IPL match against Rajasthan Royals, the Chennai Super Kings' fielder plucked the ball out of thin air in a superb display of athleticism. (Scorecard | Highlights | Match in pics)
Bravo - known to be a decent fielder - turned the match on its head when he jumped to take the blinder in the tenth over. Shane Watson, on 28, had been leading Rajasthan's chase against Chennai's 157/5. It would have taken a heroic effort to remove the veteran Aussie and that's just what Bravo produced. Watson hit Jadeja down the ground and the ball looked like it would sail well beyond the boundary. It however was acrobatically grabbed by the five-foot-seven-inch Bravo who leapt up, stretched his right hand, caught the ball and was even able to balance his landing to complete a sensational effort. "It was a fluke," a humble Bravo said after the match. "I stuck my hand out and the ball got stuck there."
Such was the 'quality' of the catch though that it left Watson visibly stunned and the Chepauk fans audibly ecstatic. And such was the impact of the successful effort that Rajasthan's innings went from 63/2 in 10 overs to 145/9 in the end, with Chennai claiming full points to grab the top-spot in the points table again. Bravo also took two wickets in the match which helped him claim the purple cap for the highest wicket-taker in IPL 8 so far.
