The elements have not been kind to Kolkata Knight Riders. Gautam Gambhir's team will need more than just luck as the defending champions look for the perfect home run in a bid to qualify for the playoffs.
The first of the three home matches begin on Monday night as KKR take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens. Kolkata lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore in a rain-hit match on Saturday, leaving them fourth on the table - nine points from as many games.
Sunrisers are a buoyant bunch. Any team that gets the better of Chennai Super Kings must be playing good cricket. CSK are the most settled unit in IPL and Hyderabad will be confident of beating KKR. Currently fifth in the standings, a point adrift of KKR, David Warner's team will fire on all cylinders.
KKR have the game and the knowledge to win on Eden Gardens' slow-paced wicket. The onus will be on the slow bowlers with veteran Bradd Hogg certain to lead the home team attack. Hyderabad will look up to Karn Sharma, whose form this season has not been reflective of his potential and price tag. Karn has got just four wickets in eight matches.
Warner needs to hit four sixes to score a ton of over-boundaries in IPL. KKR's Robin Uthappa is six sixes away from 100! A mix of caution and aggression will be something that the teams will want from them.
