Mumbai Indians lifted their second Indian Premier League title after beating Chennai Super Kings by 41 runs. Batting first, Mumbai pummeled the Chennai bowling to mount a massive 202/5. Captain Rohit Sharma and Lendl Simmons took the Chennai bowlers to the cleaners and the finishing touch was provided by Ambati Rayudu and Kieron Pollard.
Chennai won the toss and from thereon, lost everything. They looked jaded and chasing a massive target was never in the game. The Mumbai bowlers kept a lid on their batsmen and even the likes of Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni struggled with the bat.

23:45: That's it! MUMBAI HAVE WON THE 2015 IPL! Chennai have gone down by a huge margin here. Mumbai had turned it around in fascinating style! No one gave them a chance when they lost their first four games but that's when the star studded back-room stuff came into being - Ponting, Tendulkar, Rhodes, Bond, Kumble - these guys know how to wade through tough times and Mumbai Indians are the IPL 2015 champions!
23:38: OUT! Ashwin now falls to McClenaghan. Really didn't have an option. This is all Mumbai at the Eden Gardens. They have dominated the game and have never looked second best.
23:33: OUT! And another one - too easy for Malinga. Negi had no idea about that slower one. Scoops it to Pandya as the celebrations begin.

23:28: OUT! Chennai collapsing now! Du Plessis (1) taken brilliantly at covers by Rohit. CSK 125/6 (16.2 overs).
They are still a very good side but I wonder if in the off season #CSK will introspect and look to re-energise.
- Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) May 24, 2015
23:25: BOWLED! Surely it's all over for Chennai now. MS Dhoni (18) has been uprooted by Malinga. Dhoni goes for the heave, misses the yorker, hits his pads and deflects on to the stumps. Surely, the last nail in Chennai's coffin this! Even Tendulkar knows it, he's happy as a punch!
23:20: SIX! Humungous shot from MS Dhoni - clears his front leg and sends Malinga into the dressing room. Wow! That was massive!
© BCCI
23:17: FOUR! Dhoni pulls and pulls it hard past square leg. He needs to pull off a miracle if Chennai have to get anywhere near the Mumbai score.
23:16: OUT! Nope, McClenaghan does it! Bravo (9) finds Simmons at third man. This is going awry for the Super Kings. CSK need 95 runs from 32 balls.
23:14: SIX! McClenaghan comes back and Bravo whacks it over his head. Can Chennai still mount a comeback here?
23:10: STUMPED! Raina (28) fails to go past 400 runs in IPL for the first time. Completely outfoxed by Harbhajan - dances down the track, misses and Parthiv does the rest! CSK need 104 from 39 balls.
I like this new delivery that Bhajji is bowling today...doosra is no more but off-spinners will continue to find ways to stay relevant. #IPL
- Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) May 24, 2015
23:05: Mumbai have done this brilliantly here - no let ups for the Chennai batsmen. Bowling Pandya has also been a good move by Rohit Sharma, the youngster has kept things tight and the required rate has crept past 15-an over. Dhoni-Raina at the crease but this is even a bit to ask from these two outstanding hitters. Super Kings need 105 runs from 42 balls.

22:58: OUT! Smith (57) is trapped in front by Harbhajan. Goes for the sweep and is hit right on the inside of the left pad. CSK need 115 runs from 49-balls.
22:56: FOUR! Glided away by Smith and he gets to his 12th IPL fifty. Took 45-balls to reach it and now needs to kick on.
22:54: FOUR! Third boundary in four balls - Chennai piling it up now. Short and Raina pulls it past square leg.
22:52: FOUR! That's a 'hit me' delivery - short and asking for punishment. Smith makes no mistake.
22:51: SIX! Raina gets it up and over - lofts Harbhajan straight over cow corner. Chennai need this man to come to the party tonight.

- Mohandas Menon (@mohanstatsman) May 24, 2015
22:49: Reverse sweep and close - Smith very lucky that it fell short. Run out chance at the other end as Raina scampers back. This is good pressure from Mumbai - bowling well and backing it up with some athletic fielding.
22:45: FOUR! Wide from Pandya and Smith lets his hands fly. Thrashes it to the cover boundary.
Back of good length is working for #MI Hindsight is perfect vision...but #CSK's decision to bowl first backfiring big time.
- Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) May 24, 2015
22:43: Close! Suresh Raina escapes here - Hardik Pandya digs that one in and Raina was in no position to play that shot. Spoons up in the air and just lands safely.
22:41: FOUR! Sweep and finds the gap on the on-side. Harbhajan just bowling it a touch flatter and Smith takes advantage. 50-up for Chennai after the eighth over.
22:38: FOUR! Beautifully played by Smith - Harbhajan comes in the attack and Smith welcomes him with a reverse sweep. The Mumbai bowlers have been very disciplined and Chennai are struggling to keep the pace up.
22:35: FOUR! Short from Pandya - Smith swivels and whacks it past square leg. Chennai need to put some momentum into their innings now.

22:30: Suresh Raina has joined Smith in the middle. He has had a quiet tournament by his standards. Will he step up to the plate tonight? The wicket is slowing up and it looks a tough chase but then again, Raina revels in a big match, almost always.
22:26: FOUR! Smith chancing his arm now. Takes on Vinay Kumar, gets an outside edge and it flies to point boundary.
22:22: Did that carry? Hussey drives it to covers and Pandya is claiming the catch but did that bounce before? The zoomer is on - it might be out now. OUT! That did go in hand. Good work from Suchith there!
22:18: FOUR! Finally Hussey gets on in the middle. Just over the covers fielder. And okay, here' some news from another superstar Aussie.
Awesome cricket at Lords & in India. Was just asked when am I coming back to #IPL on air? Would love to be back, maybe a mentoring role 2016
- Shane Warne (@ShaneWarne) May 24, 2015
22:13: Another superb over from Malinga - keeping Smith and Hussey in check. CSK 14/0 after 3 overs.
22:07: SIX! Three dot balls from McClenaghan and Smith swings hard the the fourth one, takes a top edge and flies over the keeper. This is a solid start from Malinga and McClenaghan - good line and the Super Kings batsmen look under some pressure.
22:03: FOUR! Smith leans into the ball and creams the ball through the covers.
22:00: Yorker to start with! Malinga right on the money to start off the chase.

20:45: DOT ball to end the innings. Mumbai power to 202/5 after an incredible batting effort from their batsmen. Rohit and Simmons set the tone and Rayudu-Pollard finished the job with some stunning blows in the end.
21:41: SIX! Now that's a stunning shot from Harbhajan Singh. Goes down on one knee and whacks Bravo into the extra-cover fence.
21:40: OUT! Stunning catch from Raina to send Pandya back. MI 191/5 (19.2 overs)
21:37: OUT! Pollard (36) finds Raina off Mohit Sharma. MI 191/4 (18.5 overs)
21:33: SIX! That's McCullum, oh! No that's Rayudu! Goes outside off, bends his knees and whacks Mohit Sharma over long leg.
21:30: DROPPED! Dwayne Smith spills a sitter! Rayudu misread the slower from Bravo and skied it, Smith should have caught it easy.
21:28: FOUR! Brilliant strike from Rayudu - opens up his body and smacks the ball over covers. That's a top shot!
21:24: SIX again! Pollard is taking the attack to the cleaners. 23 runs from that Nehra over. MI 173/3 after 17 overs.
I wish I could middle the ball and hit it as hard as Pollard does from the toe of his bat...
- Iain O'Brien (@iainobrien) May 24, 2015
21:23: FOUR! Nehra slides down the leg and flicked away through mid-wicket. MS Dhoni is not happy and he's having a chat with his bowler now.
21:20: SIX! Right from the middle - colossal hit from Pollard, 20 rows back in the crowd.
21:18: Chennai are pulling it back. Mumbai looked set for a score of about 200 but now, they will have to set their sights a bit lower. However, with Pollard around, anything is possible.
21:11: SIX! Rayudu goes down on his knees and launches Smith into the crowd. Mumbai have lost a bit of momentum and they need a push in the closing stages. MI 146/3 after 15 overs. Meanwhile Zimbabwe have posted a formidable 175/3 against Pakistan in their T20 game. Follow the LIVE updates.
21:08: FOUR! Pollard answers back to his Trinidad mate! Deft touch and it goes flying to the third-man.
21:07: Pollard v Bravo - the battle is on. Bravo digs in short and Pollard was in no control of that hook shot, lucky it falls in the no man's zone.

And the love affair at Kolkata continues for @ImRo45 well played Brothaman looks like #mipaltan heading for a big score with Simmons stillin
- yuvraj singh (@YUVSTRONG12) May 24, 2015
20:53: FOUR! Timed brilliantly by Rohit Sharma, Bravo comes on and is treated with disdain. This man is an absolute treat to watch.
20:50: FOUR! In the gap again - Chennai are bleeding runs.
20:48: That's a good effort from Negi at the boundary. This partnership is taking the game away, that too very quickly. Dhoni needs his bowlers to stand up and get a wicket here. At this rate, Mumbai are looking set for a total close to 200.
20:44: FIFTY for Simmons - his sixth of the season and ninth overall. Gets a leading edge and a stunning effort from Negi, just couldn't hold on to it. Mumbai are giving it everything, throwing some serious punches at Chennai and guess what, the men in yellow look a touch flustered. MI 98/1 after 10 overs.
He's not the biggest star in the world but twice in two years Lendl Simmons has spurred the revival for #MI #PepsiIPL. #CSKvsMI

20:37: SIX! Fetch that from Rohit - Ashwin flights it and Rohit dances down the track and puts it rows back in the crowd.
20:34: FOUR! Simmons cuts and Negi is sent to the point boundary. The wicket is slow and the spinners need to get it right for Chennai. MI 68/1 after7 overs.
If you want to come back from a bad start, this is the way to do it #MI. Already, pressure on #CSK. #PepsiIPL
- Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) May 24, 2015
20:33: Chennai need a wicket to put a lid on the scoring. Right now, Mumbai are scoring more than 10 an over and on this track, anything over 170 will be a tricky chase.
20:28: SIX! FOUR! Up, up and way - Simmons taking Jadeja apart as Mumbai charging on at Kolkata. Dhoni has no answer to this onslaught!
20:27: FOUR! Jadeja into the attack and boom it goes through wide long-on.

© BCCI

Chennai Super Kings - W, L, W, L, W
Mumbai Indians - W, W, W, L, W
Mumbai Indians would be happy to take on a team that's not been entirely convincing this season. Chennai have been dodgy - their batting has let them down on multiple occasions and their bowling hasn't looked threatening. (Dhoni's Consistent Leadership is Key: Raina)
Yet, they topped the IPL table and now, have reached the final. That's the thing with Dhoni's teams - they are resilient and they know how to win. (We Executed Our Plans Brilliantly: Parthiv Patel)
Chennai Super Kings eye a record third IPL win. They have been the only team who has made it to every Play-off over the last eight seasons. This season too, the team has wade through amidst controversies and kept their chins up and performed admirably. (Fleming Hails Harbhajan)
However, if admiration was a yardstick, Mumbai Indians would be topping the charts. They lost four games to start their campaign and then turned it around completely. There were talks about their much hyped star-studded backroom staff failing to inspire the side but the charisma of Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Shane Bond and Jonty Rhodes finally shone through and took Mumbai straight to the final. (IPL Final Chennai vs Mumbai: Who has the Edge?)
It's form vs resilience tonight. Will Mumbai continue their surge? Or will the men in canary yellow land the knock-out punch on the biggest stage?
