Spot-fixing: BCCI suspends players, Chandila's family says Ajit is being framed

Even as the Board of Control for Cricket in India suspended Rajasthan Royals' Sreesanth, Ankit Chavan and Ajit Chandila for spot-fixing allegations against them, the players are getting some moral support "till proved guilty."

Chandila's family is backing their son and says he is being framed.

"He has been doing well for the last two-three years for Rajasthan. People are jealous of him. It's a conspiracy," said Ajit's wife, Sarita.

The family, which lives in Faridabad, said: "He can't do such things. He doesn't have to. We have no clue why he should fix matches but the media is already calling him guilty. We are behind him, said Ajit's sister-in-law, Usha."

The Rajasthan trio is also getting support from several quarters "till proved guilty."

Royal Challengers Bangalore CEO Charu Sharma said: "First prove them wrong. If they are guilty, ban them." Sashi Tharoor also spoke on similar lines.

Former cricketer Farokh Engineer says the good name of the IPL or the BCCI should not get tarnished. "The greed of a handful of players should not spoil BCCI's image. The world is in awe of IPL and it should remain like this," Engineer said.

While the involvement of hawala (illegal way of transferring money outside the country) and the D- Company are being investigated, Dean Jones feels "if betting is legalized in India and the profit goes back to the game" then the menace can be eradicated.

The IPL are now investigating most matches played by the three players allegedly involved in spot-fixing. Delhi Police are going to reveal more about this episode later in the day.
