In yet another closely fought encounter, Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated the Delhi Daredevils in the last over by three wickets at the Feroz Shah Kotla, here on Friday.
The result meant that Hyderabad join the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the top of the points table, with Delhi rooted to the bottom after suffering their fourth straight defeat.
"Our bowling was outstanding today, restricting Delhi to 114/8. I'm proud to lead this side," said Hyderabad skipper Kumar Sangakkara with relief etched on his face.
Leg-spinner Amit Mishra was voted Man of the Match for figures of 1/15 with the ball and a handy 16* with the bat.
"There was a bit of pressure towards the end, but we handled it well," said Mishra, who has a double-century in domestic cricket to his name.
"I know the Feroz Shah Kotla wicket well and I have been practicing hard on my batting. But, at the end of the day, the team winning is more important that the award."
Delhi skipper Mahela Jayawardena was disconsolate after the close defeat. The Daredevils have now lost four on the bounce but Jayawardena was still looking at the positives.
"Well now that's a couple of close defeats but we are playing well. We have to give credit to the Sunrisers Hyderabad, who bowled extremely well."
"But, I have to say, our batting wasn't up to the mark. Our shot selection was poor but at least we can take positives from our bowling effort."
Despite needlessly giving his wicket away in the chase, Hyderabad batsman Cameron White was relieved after his side made heavy weather of a small 115-run chase at the Feroz Shah Kotla.
"I'm absolutely happy after the win. It was a good job done in the end by Dale Steyn and Amit Mishra after some ordinary batting by us.
"We'll take the points from the win. Obviously we'll have to bat much better in the games to come.
"Scoring three wins out of four games is a lot better than few of the previous starts we have got in the IPL season."
